According to the translated caption, this wasn’t a typical game of hockey, since they didn’t have the right equipment. So, the young royals opted for shoes instead of skates and used a deflated soccer ball as a makeshift puck.
It read, “Snow and ice set the ingenuity in motion, and a frozen lake turned into an ice hockey rink. After preparation, it became an alternative ice hockey match…without skates and with sticks as poles and an old flat football as puck.”
The impromptu scrimmage likely took place near their home at Frederik VIII’s Palace, which is located inside the Amalienborg complex in Copenhagen.
One person wrote, “Thank you for a lovely greeting. So nice to see someone enjoying the cold winter weather.” Another added, “Fantastic, playing like my own in the 1950s…except that I had [skates emoji] on…great creativity and joy in the kids.”
