Dan Levy Reveals Why He Had to Wear a Neck Brace Behind the Scenes of ‘Schitt's Creek’

While Schitt's Creek fans know Dan Levy as the suave and sarcastic David Rose, it turns out that things weren't always so glamorous for the star while on set.

Besides starring in the show, Levy also wrote, produced, and directed episodes of the series (which he co-created with his father, Eugene Levy). And with so many responsibilities, it was challenging to balance all of them. In a new interview with British GQ, Levy said that during some weeks, “I didn’t sleep more than eight hours.”

Levy also revealed that by the time they were filming the final season, his stress had built up so much he had to wear a neck brace. “The anxiety in my neck was so bad I couldn’t move it,” he said. “At one point there was an acupuncturist and a chiropractor coming to set every day at lunch to work on my neck so that I could actually perform and not, you know, look like I needed a neck brace.”

But while Levy said that he “didn't have a social life” for the six years that he worked on Schitt's Creek, it seems he is still excited to keep writing and directing.

He told British GQ about his plans to direct a gay romantic comedy. “I’ve always wanted to make [a rom-com],” he said. “I’ve always wanted to be in one. And as a gay person, you don’t ever get that kind of opportunity. You get to play the zany friend or Pepe the coworker. So I’m really excited and honored to have that opportunity: to put a gay person front and center in a rom-com.”

After inking a major deal with Netflix back in September, it seems the star will have plenty of opportunities to craft his own stories. He is already set to star in a new competitive cooking show on HBO Max and his recent Schitt's Creek-centered book has just become New York Times bestseller.

Looks like Dan isn't slowing down any time soon (we just hope he gets some sleep).
