We'll always be excited to see what red carpet veterans like Charlize Theron, Billy Porter and Kirsten Dunst choose to wear for a big event, but it's the newcomers that we get really excited about. This year's Golden Globes brings us Cynthia Erivo, the star of Harriet, and, whoa baby, she did not disappoint.
The British actress wore a custom-made Thom Browne gown absolutely covered in delicate beads. In fact, it took an incredible 800 hours for the design team to put this stunner together before the event. And while we adore how the off-the-shoulder, black-and-white dress has a bit of a tuxedo vibe, it's the flowers on the skit that Erivo seemed most excited about.
Turns out after mentioning that her favorite flowers are peonies, the Thom Browne team decided to decorate the gown with a scattering of subtle black beaded blooms on the front, and bold black embroidered versions on the white silk lining, giving viewers a gorgeous and beautifully personalized glimmer with Erivo's every step down the red carpet. She accessorized with a cool estimated $3 million worth of Tiffany diamonds and minimal hair and makeup.
To be fair, Erivo isn't totally new to the award show circuit. The 32-year-old actress won a Tony in 2016 and both an Emmy and a Grammy in 2017, making her three-quarters of the way to joining the ranks of superstars like John Legend and Rita Moreno and earning the privilege of calling herself an EGOT winner. Nominees for this year's Academy Awards won't be announced until January 13, but our fingers are crossed for you Cynthia.
