I Think There’s More to Corey’s Story on ‘Big Little Lies’ & Here’s Why

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

After watching tonight’s episode of Big Little Lies, I’m skeptical about many things—in particular, Jane’s (Shailene Woodley) new co-worker, Corey (Douglas Smith), who appears too innocent to be true.

OK, I’m not saying that he’s a serial killer in disguise. (The guy nearly had a heart attack during his date with Jane when the waitress suggested the fish might be farm-raised instead of wild, so I highly doubt he’s capable of anything massively evil.)

However, it’s the first time the BLL writers have introduced a character without a real purpose, and I feel like it’s only a matter of time before his true intentions are exposed.

While I’m not exactly sure how he’ll fit into the story line, I have two theories. First, I think that Corey knows more about Trivia Night than he’s letting on. He was the one who originally told Jane about the group’s nickname, The Monterey Five, but no one ever questioned how—or why—he had that information.

So, was he there? It’s not impossible, since there were tons of people at the fundraiser. And the fact that he’s making an obvious effort to get close to Jane and her son, Ziggy (Iain Armitage), in their time of need isn’t going unnoticed.

My second theory is a stretch, but it’s a good one for Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) fans. The internet is already predicting the late character might have a twin—or another relative?—lurking in the shadows of Monterey, and I can’t help but feel like Corey somewhat resembles Perry.

Think about it: Everything from the hair to the bizarre personality is a dead ringer for Perry. To top it off, Meryl Streep—who plays Perry’s mother, Mary Louise—recently revealed that she had a set of fake teeth made for the role, so she’d look more like the late character. Although Skarsgård is featured in flashbacks, I’m wondering if the prostheses were made to resemble Corey—not Perry.

So, what is Corey really doing in Monterey? Guess we’ll have to wait until Big Little Lies returns to HBO next Sunday, June 30, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
