Chris Harrison Reveals Why that Unprecedented ‘Bachelor’ Fantasy Suite Twist Had to Happen

For the first time ever, the producers forced the final three contestants to live together during Fantasy Suite week on The Bachelor. Weird, right? Well, according to Chris Harrison, the decision was apparently in the best interest of Peter Weber, who is days away from choosing a winner.

Harrison recently appeared on an episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast with host (and former Bachelorette) Rachel Lindsay. During the interview, the 48-year-old TV personality admitted that the crew arranged the new living situation on purpose, since they knew it would force Madison to open up to the pilot.

“There are things that we do as producers that will force you into this uncomfortable zone and force you into making a decision,” Harrison explained. “Sometimes we do it for your behalf; sometimes we do it for the guys or the girls. This situation was pretty extraordinary because Peter had kicked the can down the road but also, this time Madison had. And so, this was to force a situation that had to happen, and it had to happen this week.”

Harrison went on to say that it added a new perspective, especially since Hannah Ann and Victoria F. were allowed to weigh in on Madison’s ultimatum.

“We decided to do it this week because these are conversations that needed to be had. And it was because of the double standard and the things that Peter was going to deal with [that] we kind of needed the womens’ perspective on this,” he added. “We needed Madison to face [other finalists] Victoria and Hannah Ann and have them express their emotions on this because, again, it’s just this guy and his perspective and I don’t know if that’s the greatest thing right now.”

So savage, yet so genius. The Bachelor returns to ABC next Monday, March 2, at 8 p.m.
