When a royal throwback photo is posted on Instagram, especially one from Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer, the one thing we can always count on is a comments section wild with varied opinions. Spencer, known for his deep dives into the Spencer family history, has been posting photos of his father, grandfather and even his sister Diana as of late. Most of these have been vintage photos, like a black-and-white one of Spencer's grandfather greeting the famous Romanov couple of Russia or this muted, grainy image of Princess Diana and Charles posing in their primary school uniforms.

This time around, Charles took to Instagram with a photograph of his father. And even this one, Charles hadn't seen until today. With all his historical digging, it's rare to see the earl unearth something he hadn't come across before.
The photo, a black-and-white image of John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, shows him sitting at a desk, pen in hand. He looks sophisticated in a dark three piece suit and tie and sports a light-colored pocket square and watch.
Charles captioned the Instagram post. "I’d never seen this photograph of my father before today. I love him being captured pen-in-hand - he had beautiful handwriting: measured and handsome, in dark blue ink. A very evocative image."
Though plenty of IG commenters talked about how handsome John Spencer was, there was one strange element to every comment: They all thought he looked like another family member. The real question though was who Charles's father resembled most. Here, a sampling of the comments:
"The funny thing about DNA / genetics is evidence that’s undeniable, and it gives the clearest example of credible proof of who and to whom we belong to! This image of your daddy is a clear looking glass reflection of you and your sisters. Thanks for sharing this beautiful image of your beloved father."
"Can definitely see Prince George in this photograph."
"You look a lot like him, and that’s a great photo!"
"William and Harry are so like him Charles. What a lovely photograph of your Father."
"I see Princess Diana in him."
"Prince William resembles him. What an elegant man."
"Prince George looks so much like him."
"The sideways glance is very like your sister and your eldest nephew, sir. You must have spent some time thinking of your father, it’s a lovely picture."
"The double of Diana, very handsome man with a very kind face."
"A future King George resembles him greatly."
Many commenters talked about the resemblance that Charles and Diana share with their father, but others were convinced that Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince George are all the spitting image of their grandfather and great-grandfather respectively.
