Princess Diana’s Brother Posts Childhood Photo with Sister—and We Can See Where Prince Harry Gets His Red Hair

It’s pretty clear where Prince Harry gets his red locks from: his mother’s side of the family.

Last week, Charles Spencer (aka Princess Diana’s brother) posted a never-before-seen family photo on Instagram. The throwback snap features himself, his older sister Sarah and a close family friend named James. According to the caption, the snap was taken in Norfolk, London, during the summer of 1973. 

In the photo, Charles and Sarah are both rocking full heads of red hair while standing behind James, who is sitting on the ground. Meanwhile, the two siblings are donning comfy summer attire. 

The 9th Earl Spencer of Althorp wrote in the caption, “A photograph (taken by my father) from 50 years ago, in the gardens of Park House, in Norfolk, which was ‘home’ till I was 11 (and still is, to me, in many ways).”

The British author, 59, continued, “My sister Sarah stands behind me, and family friend James is cross-legged in front: I ended up being godfather to his son, in fact, 20 years later. Prince Harry’s red hair has always been a hot topic for tabloids and media outlets. The Duke of Sussex also addressed the issue in his bombshell memoir Spare, where the 39-year-old responded to false reports that King Charles wasn’t his biological dad. 

Instead, some rumors claimed that Prince Harry is the son of Princess Diana’s former lover, Major James Hewitt. FYI, Hewitt has red hair. The royal spare wrote in the book, “Never mind that my mother didn’t meet Major Hewitt until long after I was born, the story was simply too good to drop.”
