Céline Dion, better known as the Queen of Power Ballads, recently made her grand return to the stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. Though this marked her first live performance after being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022, the Canadian songstress, 56, dazzled in a sparkly Dior dress and blew fans away (me included) with her stunning rendition of Edith Piaf's "Hymne à L'amour." But little did I know that the iconic singer also broke a huge streaming record mere days before her performance.
On June 25, the singer's eye-opening documentary, I Am: Céline Dion, was released on Prime Video, and it has since become the streaming service's biggest documentary ever, according to Deadline. In addition, Dion's music catalog streams went up by 33 percent worldwide.
Irene Taylor, who directed the documentary, told Deadline, “This film was born out of extraordinary trust. Céline let me in at a time when most would push away. The world’s response is a testament to authenticity and non-fiction storytelling, and Amazon’s deep commitment to make Céline’s voice heard once again.”
