It's giving cottagecore

Would you believe me if I told you that the Middleton family's dining room decor is Gwyneth Paltrow-approved? (Don't roll your eyes just yet—I have receipts.)

In case you missed it, Carole Middleton's daughter, Kate Middleton, recently announced the completion of her chemotherapy treatment on Instagram. She released a personal statement and included an emotional video that features footage of the royal family playing games at her mother's home. Right off the bat, I noticed how the room embodies the best of cottagecore, from sunny walls and old-fashioned lamps to brown baskets. However, there was one particular interior design trend that caught my eye: Vintage plate walls.

In the shot, a few intricately designed blue-and-white plates are seen on the wall behind Carole's husband, Michael, Kate, and her daughter, Charlotte, as they sit at the dining table. It certainly adds to the traditional, yet homey feel. And according to DIY guru Emily Henderson, there's a reason this trend is still going strong.

She explained, “It really toes the line between modern and cozy traditional. I think that’s why it’s so visually stimulating. But having those colorful, playful plates (and other dinnerware) really helps to balance the modern lines/elements and makes it a kitchen I desperately want to be in!”

It's no wonder multiple celebrities have also adopted this trend—including Paltrow, whose California home features a stunning display of kitchen plates.

While the Middleton family's dining room has a cozy, traditional feel, Gwyneth's display leans more towards newstalgia. In fact, the actress went all out by building a full plate rack with gorgeous Hermès dishes from the Bleus d'Ailleurs collection, seamlessly blending old and new designs for a timeless and chic look. But she's not the only star who has followed the trend. Take a look at Kris Jenner's massive display.

In 2022, fans got a glimpse of Jenner's colorful dinnerware collection, which she turned into an entire dish room.

I don't know about you, but I suddenly feel compelled to create my own kitchen plate wall.
