Is Camilla Parker-Bowles a ‘Pride & Prejudice’ Fan? We Love Her Spicy Reaction to Seeing Colin Firth’s Shirt

First she met her alter ego on The Crown. Now, Camilla Parker-Bowles is spilling the tea on some of her other viewing habits, namely her affinity for the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, in which Colin Firth played Mr. Darcy—a series said to inspire a whole new generation of Jane Austen fans.

On a recent royal tour of the author’s house in the village of Chawton in the U.K., Parker-Bowles was shown clothing from film and TV adaptations of Austen’s work, now on display.

The pièce de résistance—at least in Camilla’s eyes—seemed to be the white shirt worn by Mr. Darcy himself, as played by Firth, in that famous scene where he emerges from a lake soaking wet only to accidentally encounter Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Oh la la!

The future queen consort’s spicy reaction? “But he’s not in it, that’s a bit sad,” a nod to the fact that the shirt was on display, but, alas, the ever-romantic Firth was not.

On the latest episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast (listen to it here!), my co-host Roberta Fiorito can’t help but give Parker-Bowles credit. Her off-the-cuff comment is funny—and a little bit naughty—and we’re here for it.

BRB, re-watching Pride & Prejudice. For further royal research, of course.
