I Think This ‘Big Little Lies’ Character Will Cave First & Here’s Why

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

After last night’s episode of Big Little Lies, I’m starting to think that the Monterey Five—Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz), Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley) and Renata (Laura Dern)—aren’t as solid as they once were. In fact, Bonnie is showing serious signs of PTSD, leading me to believe that she’ll eventually crack under pressure.

Here’s what you need to know: In season two, episode five of BLL, Bonnie continues to care for her mother, Elizabeth (Crystal Fox), who suffered a stroke in episode four. After Bonnie experiences a series of childhood flashbacks involving water, her mom finally opens her eyes and says, “Kill me.” The episode concludes with Bonnie going on a walk only to find herself standing outside the Monterey Bay Police Station.

With this in mind, I’m growing more and more suspicious of Bonnie’s ability to keep a secret. Alarms started going off for me back in episode four when Elizabeth has a vision of Bonnie drowning in the ocean. While I wouldn’t blame Bonnie for becoming so overcome with guilt that she submerges herself in the ocean, I don’t think it’s so simple.

You see, it would be easy to assume that Bonnie literally drowns, which is why I’m looking at it like a metaphor. Bonnie is drowning in lies, doing everything in her power to keep her head from going under. The “lies” are a result of the season one finale, when she pushed Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) to his death down a flight of stairs.

While the Monterey Five swore to never tell a soul, I think Elizabeth’s visions are hinting that Bonnie is moments away from clearing her conscience…for good.

To top it off, the promo for next week’s episode shows the detective becoming more and more skeptical of Bonnie’s behavior. Then at the hospital, Bonnie turns to her mom and says “It looks like it’s time.”

So, will Bonnie’s guilt result in a full-blown confession? Big Little Lies returns to HBO next Sunday, July 14, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
