When it comes to the upcoming royal wedding, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are just saying no to politics.
This morning, a Kensington Palace spokesperson announced that political leaders will not be included on the official royal wedding guest list, which means former U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, will not attend the couple’s nuptials. Sigh.
“It has been decided that an official list of political leaders—both U.K. and international—is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s wedding,” the statement reads. “Her Majesty’s Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by The Royal Household.” This means U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May will also be excluded from the day’s festivities.
The announcement may come as a surprise to some royal aficionados, considering Prince Harry and Markle have become close with the Obamas in recent years. Not only did the prince receive support from Barack during the Invictus Games in Toronto last year, but he’s also worked with Michelle on a number of veteran-related projects.
