The Most Shocking Moment from Part 1 of ‘The Bachelorette’ Finale

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

Part one of The Bachelorette finale aired on ABC last night, and it was a doozy. While we could easily go on and on about Ben’s not-so-surprising return, we can’t stop thinking about Brendan’s shocking departure.

Here’s what you need to know: During season 16, episode 12 of The Bachelorette, Tayshia Adams took each of the final three contestants—Brendan, Ivan and Zac—on a one-on-one date, followed by an invitation to the Fantasy Suite. The first two went off without a hitch, but when it came time for Brendan’s outing, things took a turn for the worse.

The issue began during the dinner date when Adams hinted at a future proposal. This prompted Brendan to get candid about where he stands, admitting that he doesn’t think he’s ready to get down on one knee. Referencing his divorce, Brendan revealed that he’s still “broken” and, therefore, can’t move forward with Adams.

This. Blew. Our. Mind. Out of all the contestants, we thought Brendan was the frontrunner. Not only did he have a successful hometown date, but he also bonded with Adams early on over their roles as divorcées.

Yes, Brendan was extremely awkward during last night’s date when famed Bachelor Nation jeweler Neil Lane made him try on engagement rings. But up until that point, he and Adams were totally solid…or so we thought. Perhaps he cracked under pressure when he realized Adams spent the night with not one, but two other men?

If you need us, we’ll be adjusting our bracket ahead of tonight’s highly anticipated The Bachelorette finale.
