It’s the End of an Era: Ariana Grande Is Saying ‘Thank U, Next’ to Her Signature Hairstyle

There are several things that come to mind when we think of Ariana Grande. First and foremost is her iconic signature ponytail. Then, of course, there’s her catchy songs (“Break Up with Your Girlfriend,” anyone?), her pants-less way of dressing and her surprising Givenchy gig. Well, it appears the 26-year-old Grammy winner is moving on from one of the things that makes her quintessentially Ariana.

Grande is currently on her Sweetener world tour and Arianators (yep, that’s what her fans are called) have been shocked to notice the singer wearing her hair down for many of her performances.

She debuted the new look in early June while giving Miley Cyrus a shout-out on Instagram.

“Everyone go watch miley’s black mirror episode immediately. She is brilliant and I love her. Also, my hair is down again,” she captioned the photo.

According to Vogue, it was Fifth Harmony alum Normani who suggested that Grande start wearing her hair down on tour. Apparently, Grande agreed.

The “7 Rings” singer’s ponytail journey first began when she starred in Sam & Cat on Nickelodeon from 2013 to 2014. She was required to bleach her hair and dye it red every several weeks, which caused so much breakage that her only option was to rock a ponytail with extensions for years.

Grande previously revealed that her ponytail left her “in constant pain always,” but that she didn’t “care at all.” (Perhaps she had no tears left to cry and that’s why she said goodbye to her ’do?).

Grande also teased a hair-down transformation last July when she covered Elle rocking platinum blonde locks, so maybe this has been a long time coming.

It seems like she’s finally ready to break free from her ponytail for good.
