Last spring, we learned that A Simple Favor would be getting a sequel with the leading stars, Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, coming back to reprise their roles. And now, the film may be starting production sooner than we thought.

Per an exclusive report by People, the sequel will start filming this fall and will take place in a brand-new location: Capri, Italy. Fans of the first movie (and novel of the same name) may recall the narrative was set in a small town in Connecticut. The outlet also confirmed most of the supporting cast from the first film are slated to return, as well as director Paul Feig.

Back in May 2022, Entertainment Tonight reported that Kendrick and Lively were teaming up for a follow-up to the 2018 mystery smash hit.

Based on the 2017 novel by Darcey Bell, A Simple Favor follows two mothers that eventually become friends. On the surface, they are complete opposites, with Emily (Lively) being outspoken and Stephanie (Kendrick) being a reserved single mother who runs a mommy blog. But, after Emily mysteriously goes missing, Stephanie takes it upon herself to find her and soon discovers some terrifying secrets along the way.

It’s no surprise the film is getting a sequel, being that it received good reviews from audiences and critics. It’s worth noting the movie grossed $97 million worldwide, despite having a $20 million budget. In addition, A Simple Favor received an 84 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, there is no second novel in the book series, so the sequel won’t have much source material to go off of.

At the moment, there is still no release date or additional casting details for the film. But, either way, we’re just excited to hear production will start very soon.
