Figure Skater Adam Rippon Announces Engagement on Instagram (& We Have Pics of the Ring)

It’s official: Adam Rippon is engaged to his beau, Jussi-Pekka “JP” Kajaala.

Yesterday, the retired Olympian, 31, posted a slideshow on his personal Instagram account, featuring rare photos of the happy couple.

In the caption, Rippon shared an update about the past year and explained that “in between all that and binging the entire four seasons of The Crown, we bought ourselves some rings and said that magic word… ‘duh!’ We got ~*engaged*~.” Both rings are gold—however, Rippon’s is encrusted in diamonds, while JP’s features a simple engraving.

Rippon also explained how his relationship with Kajaala flourished during the coronavirus pandemic, adding, “JP and I didn’t get to see each other for almost all of 2020 because of the pandemic. When there was finally a chance for me to go and see him in Finland, I jumped at it.”

He continued, “I was there for a little over two months. While I was there, I would tell him about five million jokes that I would want to pitch during my five-hour zoom meetings for our NBC comedy (hi, @billy4529 and @susankittenplan). And he would drive me into the Finnish forest where I would attempt to try and ‘help’ him shovel snow so he could keep working on the cottage he’s building.”

Rippon started dating JP back in 2018. That same year, the athlete made history as the first openly gay Team U.S.A. athlete to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.

Cheers to the soon-to-be newlyweds!
