Tonight is television’s biggest night, and the nominations are chock full of many beleoved shows, from The Bear to Only Murders in the Building and Shōgun. While I may be on the edge of my seat as Abbot Elementary goes head-to-head with The Bear for Outstanding Comedy Series, I’m just as excited to see the red carpet fashion. And this year, there’s been a major change for the 76th Emmys. Ladies and gentleman, the carpet is blessedly red again.

You may recall that the 75th Emmys carpet was not the customary crimson hue, but a puzzling silver that evoked concrete. Needless to say, it, along with the bizarre and busy backdrops that stole the spotlight from many memorable fashion looks, did not go over well with fans.

Last year, one Twitter user wrote, “I hate the emmy awards red carpet background, it’s so ugly.” Another added, “The Emmys red carpet is happening and I canNOT get over how ugly the step and repeat is this year. Like who greenlit this it’s so busy and distracting.”

Tonight, the show runners have rectified the unpopular design choices, and we have a crimson carpet and blessedly pared-down backdrop, drawing our attention back to where it belongs: All those red-carpet looks. And can I just say, rugby queen Ilona Maher is absolutely slaying?
