Mattress shopping can easily get overwhelming. Between deciding what kind of lumbar support you need to figuring out the best materials, there are tons of things to consider before making your decision. But honestly, the best advice I can give you is: You get what you pay for. I've shopped for and tested my fair share of mattresses and eventually came to the conclusion that cheaper mattresses are going to wear out more quickly, start to roll at the edges or simply not serve up all the comfort and support you were hoping for. This doesn't mean you have to find the most expensive mattress on the market, but it does mean investing in features you really care about, whether it's breathable and cooling fabrics or a hybrid construction—trust, it will pay off in the end. If opting for an organic mattress that's made with non-toxic materials is at the top of your list, then PureWow-tested brand Naturepedic should definitely be on your radar.

Why Naturepedic Stands Out in the Mattress Market

Naturepedic isn't your average mattress and bedding company. Aside from sheer comfort and longevity, the brand uniquely prioritizes sustainability and non-toxic materials in the production and distribution of all its products. It steers clear of polyurethane and flame retardants, and sticks to GOTS-certified organic mattresses to reduce the impact of fertilizers, pesticides and other harmful chemicals to the environment. The brand is truly committed to putting out products that are healthier for you and your home. In 2024, Naturepedic was also the first brand to gain the EWG Verified: Mattresses Standards verification.

Naturepedic

Our CEO Ryan Harwood tried out the Naturepedic Halcyon Azure mattress (from $6,499) for two months (and counting), and admits to sleeping more comfortably and waking up feeling more rested and rejuvenated. Harwood and his wife share the bed and tell me that the organic and ethically made aspects of the bed are a key reason Naturepedic caught their eye in the first place. Although that luxe model is only available in stores, the EOS Classic Organic Mattress (from $2,199), pictured above, is the next best thing, and available for online purchasing. It's a customizable, hybrid mattress made of the same organic materials, featuring layers of organic cotton, organic wool, organic latex and PLA, a material made from non-GMO sugarcane. You can even opt for latex-free if you have an allergy.

When it comes to the mattresses, several of the models are customizable based on your needs, including the EOS and Halcyon beds. For instance, Harwood grabbed his bed in split firm levels. He got a soft-medium firmness level on one side and then fully firm on the other side, allowing him and his wife to sleep comfortably on their own desired plushness. With each bed, you get a 100-night trial and a 25-year limited warranty, too. They all come in twin up to California king sizes.

There are currently 25 Naturepedic showrooms, as well as retailers that sell the brand, in addition to the option t0 order most products online. These are not boxed mattresses, so when they're delivered to your home you'll have to carry the full, expanded bed where you desire.

Naturepedic has more than just mattresses, though. You can find beds for your kiddos, mattress toppers, blankets, comforters, pillows, even dog beds. Below, check out my picks for the best pieces to shop at Naturepedic.
