best subscription boxes for everyone universal
Paula Boudes for PureWow

Although sometimes a bit of a splurge, subscription boxes can be quite the little lifesavers. You can discover a wide world of fresh fragrances with my favorite pick, Scentbird (from $17; $8 for your first send), new styles curated by your own personal shopper from the best overall pick Stitch Fix (from $20) and international coffee blends—all without ever having to leave your couch. Subscription services also make excellent last-minute gifts for those friends and relatives that are hard to shop for (I’m looking at you, Dad). Plus, sending a subscription box feels a touch more personal than simply putting a gift card or check in the mail. Since you can’t possibly sort through the hundreds of options out there, I asked PureWow editors and employees to recommend the absolute best subscription boxes—which some tested over the course of months and even years—in the clothing, beauty, food, home, wellness, kids and pets categories to help you make the best choice. (Of course I included some of my favorites along the way, too.)

With monthly deliveries fit for everyone in your life—from your BFF who loves wine to your mom who picked up painting recently or your skincare-obsessed sister—choosing a specific subscription box shows you put thought into the present even if it wasn't hand-selected from a store shelf. Even better? Most of these brands offer gift certificates that arrive in your recipient's inbox, so there's no need to worry about shipping delays.

How I Chose the Best Subscription Boxes for Everyone

I chose this extensive list of the best subscription boxes for everyone based on a few factors. As I previously mentioned, I polled PureWow editors and Gallery Media Group employees to find out which subscription boxes have that “it” factor, weighing each pro and con and sifting through their honest reviews. (Spoiler: They’re a passionate bunch with a lot of thoughts on the services.) I also spent hours researching PureWow reader favorite subscriptions, calling in the most popular boxes on the market to test for an honest take. Some things my colleagues and I considered are: subscription frequency, what you get in each send, shipping cost, additional perks or discounts and pricing. I also sifted through hours of brutally honest subscriber reviews to assemble a complete guide on the best subscription boxes for everyone, from a newborn baby to a furry friend.

The Best Clothing Subscription Boxes

Best Casual Clothing Subscription Boxes

1. Stitch Fix

What I Like

  • personalized picks curated by a stylist
  • 1000+ well-known brands
  • inclusive sizing

What I Don't Like

  • boxes sometimes skew towards athleisure wear and may contain repeat brands

Stitch Fix

Ahh…there’s nothing quite like receiving a shipment of fresh clothing to spruce up your wardrobe. Enter: Stitch Fix, the all-around subscription box designed to make shopping easier by doing the heavy lifting for you. Simply take a questionnaire so Stitch Fix stylists can understand your fashion preferences, your budget and how often you want to receive each type of look. Then, a stylist will begin to pull curated pieces for a $20 styling fee, which gets credited toward any items you decide to keep. “It has tons of clothing options, from loungewear to business casual [as well as well-known brands like Vuori and Polo Ralph Lauren], so it fits into any lifestyle,” says PureWow’s Executive Managing Editor, Catrina Yohay.

“I also love that all of the pieces included are complementary of each other and are meant to be worn together, which is honestly genius. Each Stitch Fix box I was sent came with a bunch of outfit options, and it even included a card with suggestions on how to style the looks. I think people that hate shopping or don't have time to shop would benefit from using Stitch Fix,” she adds.

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: a stylist-selected shipment of five items of clothing from brands like The North Face, Ralph Lauren and New Balance, plus a prepaid label to make returns or exchanges
  • Subscription Frequency: monthly, but no subscription required (optional automatic deliveries)
  • Shipping: free shipping
  • Price: from $20

Best Dressy Clothing Subscription Box

2. Nuuly

What I Like

  • large selection of popular brands
  • extensive number of items available on their website
  • do not need to launder or repair items before returning

What I Don't Like

  • can’t reserve items, and top items are frequently unavailable
  • must return all of the items in order to unlock your next box

Nuuly

“Clothing rental services like Nuuly have changed the game when it comes to fast fashion and sustainability,"says Pamela Masin, director of affiliate strategy at PureWow. "Now, instead of cycling through clothes, I rent instead. It costs $98 a month for six items. I'll usually buy something to wear to a wedding and that type of dress alone would have cost me over $100 if I were to have bought it at face value.” With over 300 plus brands to rent from, including Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters, there’s a lot to gush over with this subscription box. Masin’s one qualm? “You can’t reserve items. Often, I'll be eyeing a dress for an upcoming wedding but when it's time for me to rent a new box, that item will be unavailable so you can't really plan ahead.” She suggests renting newly added items that haven’t had the chance to dwindle in stock yet.

TL;DR: “If you're someone who regularly likes to try out new trends or wants to get some specialty styles for an event (i.e., vacation), it would be totally worth it,” says PureWow Assistant Commerce Editor Natalie LaBarbera. Psst, there’s free shipping, free returns, no hidden fees and an option to pause at anytime. Not only that, but they’ll also handle the laundry and dry cleaning.

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: six items of clothing from popular brands like Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters
  • Subscription Frequency: monthly, option to pause anytime
  • Shipping: free two-day shipping and returns
  • Price: $98

Best Designer Clothing Subscription Box

3. Rent The Runway

What I Like

  • access to designer brands and luxury pieces
  • easy return process (no dry cleaning or washing necessary and pre-paid UPS return label is included)
  • option to purchase items for up to 70 percent off the original price

What I Don't Like

  • popular pieces can become unavailable quickly
  • thousands of items can feel overwhelming to sift through

Rent The Runway

Love to shop and try new brands, preferably designer clothing? (Same.) Rent the Runway is a smart choice for someone who wants to try out high-end brands like LoveShackFancy, Mother, Loeffler Randall, Oscar de la Renta and more, without the high price tags. While I found that keeping up with a monthly subscription just didn’t suit my lifestyle, I would 100 percent think it worth it if I was constantly hopping from event to event, running from business meeting during the week to happy hour socials at night and getaways on the weekends. If you don’t want to drop a hefty amount on a designer item that you’ll likely only wear one time, then this is for you.

Plus, Rent the Runway takes care of shipping, returns and dry cleaning, so you can swap items out whenever, which is great if something doesn’t fit or you simply don’t like the style on you. And you can hold onto items that you love (though this will fill one spot for your next month’s shipment) and heart styles on their site—I found this SO helpful to see if unavailable pieces I loved came back in stock.

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: five, ten, or twenty designer items (clothes and accessories) per month
  • Subscription Frequency: three monthly plans to select from, option to pause or cancel anytime
  • Shipping: free two-day shipping and returns
  • Price: starting at $94 ($89 for your first month)

Best Activewear for Athleisure Lovers

4. Fabletics

What I Like

  • extensive size range
  • VIP sale prices
  • option to skip months

What I Don't Like

  • fit and sizing may vary, especially depending upon workout type (HIIT, cardio, yoga, LISS, etc.)

Fabletics

Calling all athleisure aficionados! When you join the Fabletic’s VIP club for $60 per month, you’ll receive access to hundreds of athletic wear pieces after you take a quick multiple choice style quiz. “I loved getting a curated shopping page of items fitting my taste AND size (it's SO hard to find tall sizing, but they had a great selection),” says PureWow Vice President of Editorial Candace Davison. “Items were delivered to my door in just a few days, much faster than expected.” She especially liked that the sizing matched the description on the website, and noted that reviewers helpfully report when something runs large or small.

The best part? VIP members get the option to skip months, free shipping and 20 to 50 percent off every purchase, which means you'll be paying as little as $60 for a two-piece yoga or running outfit. Davison also appreciated that the brand offers an inclusive size range, with pieces available to order in various inseams (tall, regular and short) and sizes (XXS to 4XL). She says, “I really loved the thickness of the wide-leg sweatpants and half-zip sweater; the fabric seemed durable and well-constructed, standing up to workouts and spills without issue.”

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: any one item, a two-piece outfit, or a multiple-piece bundle; access to VIP-only, limited-edition drops and celebrity collaborations, 20-50 percent off retail prices
  • Subscription Frequency: monthly, option to cancel anytime or skip between the 1st and the 5th of the month
  • Shipping: free shipping and returns within the contiguous U.S. and Canada
  • Price: $60

Best Subscription Box for Petites

5. Short Story

What I Like

  • made for petites
  • option to change the frequency you’d like to receive a box
  • can control price range

What I Don't Like

  • quality may vary from piece to piece
  • $25 styling fee in addition to monthly cost

Short Story

Behold: Short Story’s subscription box for petites, featuring curated styles for women 5’4” and below that caused PureWow’s Senior Editor, Dana Dickey, to break it off with her tailor. “The Short Story experience was better than I’d hoped,” says Dickey. Whether you have short legs, a short torso or short arms, every piece of clothing Short Story features is designed for petites in mind with sizes ranging from 00P to 20P, and some of the popular brands to expect include Joe’s Jeans, Vince Camuto and Good American, to name a few.

If you happen to fall in love with an item (or two) that your stylist picked out, you can always purchase the pieces you want to keep—and that $25 styling fee will be deducted from your purchase—otherwise you can mail it back with the prepaid shipping label that’s included in your box. “I’ll be hitting them up for a seasonal infusion of style inspo every few months, as well as asking for help whenever there are any special occasions I want to have the perfect fit for.”

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: five to six personally curated clothing pieces designed to flatter frames 5’4 and under from trendy brands
  • Subscription Frequency: monthly, option to cancel anytime
  • Shipping: free shipping
  • Price: $60 (extra $25 stylist fee per box)

Best Lingerie Subscription Box

6. Adore Me Elite Lingerie Box

What I Like

  • easy exchanges and returns
  • inclusive and extensive size range
  • option to skip a month and no extra membership fees

What I Don't Like

  • cannot choose, suggest or preview lingerie sends

Adore Me

Adore Me is the answer to your lingerie shopping woes. With the help of a quick quiz, which lets you answer questions about your preferred styles, colors and, of course, sizes, you’ll receive three to five matching sets—a curated bra-and-knickers set, athletic wear, a bathing suit or sleepwear—at your door. It’s a top pick for Beauty and Cultures Editor Chelsea Candelario. “As someone with big boobs, wide hips and a tummy, each item fit perfectly on my body. The bras made me realize that I might be wearing the wrong size, because they were so comfortable and sculpted my chest SO WELL. I’ve also never owned a corset before and wow wow wow! Not to toot my own horn, but I looked GOOD in it.” She goes on to note that new lingerie and undies were high-quality, comfortable and super soft. “I think it's a reasonable price, as bras and panties are usually expensive already,” concludes Candelario. She also appreciates that the $20 styling fee gets credited back to the items she chooses to keep.

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: four to seven styles (including lingerie, activewear, bras, panties, sleepwear and swim)
  • Subscription Frequency: monthly, option to cancel or skip anytime
  • Shipping: free shipping
  • Price: $40 to $60 (extra $20 stylist fee per box)

Best Underwear Subscription Box

7. Underclub

What I Like

  • extensive size range available
  • high-end, quality underwear brands
  • affordable price point

What I Don't Like

  • cannot choose, suggest or preview underwear sends
  • need to utilize the text box in style guide if you want to receive specific styles or colors

Underclub

This may be TMI, but I have some undies that I’ve been wearing for way too many years now, and the lace is falling apart, so Underclub has been a lifesaver, revamping my undies drawer. The first pair of underwear I received was a gorgeous navy-blue lacey thong, which fit impeccably well; however, I wish I utilized the text box in the style guide to request options that felt a little more fun and adventurous because it felt too close to what I already own.

Underclub has been known to send panties from NatoriCosabella and Commando, so everything is top-notch. And the subscription service really prides itself on size inclusivity, with sizes ranging from XS to 4XL. My second shipment was a lilac number that was made with the most unbelievable buttery-soft material, I didn’t want to take it off. For basically $15-17 per pair (as low as $33 per month, or $44 for bralette sets), this subscription is absolutely worth it if you’re anything like me, holding on to outworn, holey pairs of underwear.

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: choice of one matching bralette and bottom or two pairs of underwear
  • Subscription Frequency: monthly, option to cancel or skip anytime
  • Shipping: free shipping
  • Price: from $33

Best Fitness Subscription Box

8. Ellie

What I Like

  • options to mix and match sets or select pre-made sets
  • impressive quality and material
  • no rental hassles since the items are purchased and yours to keep

What I Don't Like

  • workout sets delivered each month can be a bit excessive for some people
  • credits are final sale and can’t be refunded

Ellie

“I've always aspired to be the sort of person that looks effortlessly cool and put-together at the gym or a workout class, but I always end up throwing on whichever T-shirt and pair of leggings is clean before running out the door,” admits Senior Commerce Editor Stephanie Maida. “Since Ellie—[the subscription box for fitness clothing]—did the work for me to put together a set that's not just stylish, but super functional, it's been really easy to keep the pieces at the ready—and I feel so cute when I work out in them.” As someone who’s not a fan of the whole rental service and everything it entails (i.e., sending clothes back and forth), Maida enjoyed that the items were purchased and hers to keep. She was also impressed with the soft fabric of the tank top and the sturdiness and durability of the sports bra she received.

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: choice of three items priced at $90 (including sports bras, leggings, jacket, etc.)
  • Subscription Frequency: no commitment, option to skip or cancel anytime
  • Shipping: free shipping
  • Price: from $50

Best Beauty Subscription Boxes

Best Fragrance Subscription Box

9. Scentbird

What I Like

  • catalog of best-selling fragrance brands, including designer brands
  • travel-size

What I Don't Like

  • only one size bottle available

Scentbird

If your grandma, boyfriend or dad loves fragrances but doesn’t want to get bombarded with samples galore all at once, then I have just the gift idea for you. Made for the parfum and cologne curious, Scentbird can give your giftee’s nose (and head) a rest while still adding to or building their best-smelling collection. There’s a quick quiz that’s designed to narrow down their likes and dislikes (maybe they lean toward fresh citrusy scents or prefer a spicy warm  vibe), which will determine which 8ml fragrance they’ll receive. There are hundreds of top brands like Prada and Bulgari (my favorite is Acqua di Parma) in their scent library, so there’s bound to be a scent they’ll like.

It’s been really fun to collect them in multiples and store them in my purses, and my friends agree—they’re constantly stealing a spritz when I’m with them. And the trial scent fits inside a sleek, reusable fragrance case that protects the Scentbird vial—I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped mine and been relieved to have that feature.

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: 8ml fragrance of your choosing
  • Subscription Frequency: monthly (flexible plans and option to cancel anytime)
  • Shipping: free shipping
  • Price: $8 for your first month, $17 every month after

Best Travel-Friendly Beauty Subscription Box

10. Birchbox

What I Like

  • option to customize your box
  • allows you to sample brands before buying
  • travel-size products

What I Don't Like

  • unable to exclude product types or ingredients

Birchbox

One of the original beauty subscription boxes, this sample-packed delivery is for anyone who likes to test-drive products before purchasing them. “I received a Birchbox subscription from a previous boss, and I thought it was such an exciting gift!" says Gallery Media Group Senior Social Media Strategist Ariana Schrier. “For anyone who loves beauty, this subscription box is the perfect little treat to gift yourself or a friend. With Birchbox, you can try new products monthly and come home to a fun little surprise.”

Inside each box (which is so cute, they’ll want to save it) comes a range of travel-friendly makeup, skincare, haircare or fragrance treasures tailored to their interests, from coveted beauty brands like Oribe, Supergoop, Amika and many more. If that sounds overwhelming to you, fret not because there is a style quiz; however, you’ll have the option to select specific products you know they’ll love or you can choose to make it a surprise. Just wait until they find the exclusive discount code in their box; it gives them access to purchase the full-size version with an exclusive discount from Birchbox’s online store.

  • bonus products

What I Don't Like

Allure

Attention, all beauty lovers on a budget. Allure Beauty Box is here to upgrade your collection (and bathroom shelfie) every month for less than you might spend on a week’s worth of coffee. Try out full-size products from best-selling brands like Wander Beauty, Elemis, Rare Beauty and Tarte for a fraction of what you’d spend at the store. Psst…that’s a value of over $100 dollars, which doesn’t even include the bonus products they throw in every once and awhile.

“It provides a great variety of travel-sized beauty products across skincare, haircare and makeup. I love seeing popular brands, but also ones I've never heard of,” Candelario tells me. “I also appreciate getting a small pamphlet that explains each product, along with a blurb from the editors that recommend it. It gives it a nice personal feel that an actual person chose this item.” On top of receiving these “best of beauty” picks from Allure editors, you’ll also get members-only discounts on specific luxury products, access to exclusive Allure events and limited-edition boxes.

Editorial Assistant Courtney Mason’s favorite part about Ipsy’s Glam Bag is being able to try out brands she otherwise wouldn’t have bought on her own accord. “IPSY is perfect for the average beauty lover on the go. I loved receiving their monthly picks along with a cute mini pouch suitable for traveling,” she says. However, after receiving a few items that weren’t quite suited for her skin tone—even though the items are personalized with the mandatory Beauty Quiz—she notes that she’d like to see improvement in the shade ranges they offer.

Over time, I grew tired of some of the items that arrived every month (looking at you, pork chops), but if you use staples like chicken, steak and ground beef monthly, it's a smart way to go.” Select between four curated boxes or make your own meat-lovers dream subscription and create a custom deliver plan that suits your schedule.

Best Grocery Subscription Box

14. Misfits Market

What I Like

  • 500+ produce, meet, seafood, dairy and bakery items
  • convenient service makes it easy to grocery shop
  • eco-friendly packaging

What I Don't Like

  • cannot guarantee allergen-free items

Misfits Market

I give this fresh produce and grocery delivery service high marks for its reasonably priced and quality food. Sign up for once a week or every other week deliveries of fresh foods that would otherwise go to waste due to its size, shape or other irregularities (don’t worry, they’re still delicious). Sure, your box of veggies and fruits may look a little blemished, but regardless, it’s a top pick for for former PureWow Editor Stephanie Sengwe who broke down the pros and cons in her extensive review of the service. She says, “Not only is Misfits Market convenient for me, but it also good to know they source product that is certified organic and non-GMO.”

Misfits Market does require an order minimum, but this varies by delivery area. Bonus: Prices are up to 30 percent off. Every week you get a three-day shopping window during which Misfits Market curates a list of groceries that you’ll be able to view and customize as needed, from organic seedless watermelon to 100 percent grass-fed boneless beef ribeye steak. “As someone who has been actively looking for ways to avoid a weekly trip to the grocery store, Misfits Market is a top pick for me,” Sengwe concludes.

Best Beginner-Friendly Cooking Subscription Box

15. Blue Apron

What I Like

  • ingredients and produce included
  • step-by-step recipe card
  • add-ons available, carbon neutral

What I Don't Like

  • few dietary plans available
  • not a great option for people with food allergies

Blue Apron

Got an itch to whip up a delicious meal with an easy-to-follow recipe at the ready? The Blue Apron subscription box is ideal for beginner cooks who want to learn new skills (you've got to check out those handy video demos!). Hence, the blue aprons, which are a “homage to chefs around the world who wear blue aprons while learning to cook,” according to the brand. Davison has been a longtime fan of the subscription box, having used it to successfully whip up a Thanksgiving meal a couple of years back, and still attests to it today. “As a mom of two, I love how these kits get me to try new meals—without buying a ton of spices and ingredients I may only use a handful of times. I'm in a phase of my life where wrangling kids makes dining out at restaurants a hassle, but this brings the restaurant experience home,” she says. There are multiple plans available that make it a breeze to feed a family of four or whip something up for two.

Fast Facts

Best Cooking Subscription Box

16. Home Chef

What I Like

  • menu frequently changes
  • option to filter by dietary restrictions
  • ability to customize meals

What I Don't Like

  • shipment includes a lot of packaging materials to recycle

Home Chef

Home Chef is a subscription box that delivers weekly meal kits straight to your door, so you can sit back, relax and let someone else do the cooking. “Home Chef made at-home cooking much less scary and intimidating,” says Delia Curtis, assistant editor at PureWow. “I felt confident in the kitchen knowing I could follow the instructions and have the meal come out looking like the photo and tasting delicious. That and also delight the people that I was cooking for. Such a good investment for those that don't have the time to grocery shop in store and still want to make things that are yummy AND easy.” (Curtis did note, thought that they didn’t love the individually packaged ingredients that felt wasteful).

All you need to do is make sure your dietary preferences and restrictions are accounted for before shipping. With Home Chef, you’ll have the option to select the number of people you want to feed and recipes you want to receive on a weekly basis—and you’ll never get tired of having the same dishes, thanks to Home Chef’s weekly recipe rotations.

Best Clean-Eating Subscription Box

17. Sakara

What I Like

  • weekly and seasonally rotating menu
  • plant-based, gluten-free, diary-free and organic
  • ingredients targets digestion, skin, energy and bloat

What I Don't Like

  • pricey

Sakara

If you struggle with food intolerances or allergies, allow me to introduce you to your new favorite way to eat healthy. Sakara takes the guesswork out of eating plant-based, gluten-free, dairy-free and organic with ready-made meals delivered on a weekly basis. Unlike other subscription services, you have the option to include three pre-prepared meals per day, so you don't have to spend valuable time cooking (aside from heating up a dish or two). Their menu is set, but it rotates both weekly and seasonally, so you’ll never have to eat the same thing more than once. Developed by nutritionists and doctors, the Sakara team prioritizes meals that are rich in nutrients and plant-based supplements the brand claims aids in digestion, boosts energy, increases focus, improves skin and reduces bloat.

PureWow Food Editor Taryn Pire gave the Sakara 30-Day Diet Reset high marks, noting, “It’s definitely pricier than a month’s worth of your usual groceries, even if you buy organic... Then again, you’re also paying for the convenience of not needing to cook for 25 days, and it’s a lot of food. (I typically felt full when I was halfway done with most of the lunches and dinners, which I assume is due to both portion size and the meals’ high fiber content.”

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: plant-based, gluten-free, diary-free and organic fully prepared meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) delivered to your door
  • Subscription Frequency: weekly subscription or one-time purchase available (option to skip, pause or cancel at any time beyond your first week)
  • Shipping: free shipping
  • Price: starting at $27/day or $186/week for a recurring subscription

The Best Drink Subscription Boxes

Best Single-Serve Wine Subscription Box

18. In Good Taste Wine Flight

In Good Taste Wine Flight

Being the only wine drinker in her household, Associate Director of Social Strategy Emily Brozyna appreciates In Good Taste Wine Flight because they send eight mini, single-serve bottles that she can enjoy in one glass without the worry of letting a full bottle spoil. When I asked her which standout flight was her favorite in an in-depth Instagram review, it was an easy response: the Wild Child Flight, which features Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé and a 2020 Pinot Noir. But In Good Taste offers a myriad of flights to choose from, like a Cascade Wines of Washington ($49) and a California Wine Mixer ($65). “Overall, I love that this lets me enjoy a glass with less waste and fresher wine,” she says.

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: eight single-serve mini bottles
  • Subscription Frequency: one-time shipment
  • Shipping: free shipping over $129, otherwise calculated at checkout
  • Price: from $49

Best European Wine Subscription Box

19. VineBox

What I Like

  • single-serving tubes
  • European wine selection with assortment of reds and whites
  • access to sommelier-led wine tasting videos

What I Don't Like

  • cannot select wine preferences

VineBox

If you love wine, but are more of a casual sipper, VineBox sends six single-glass tasting samples of sommelier curated European wines instead of full bottles, each filled with a different wine (three red and three white). Davison especially enjoyed VineBox’s advent calendar assortment. She tells me: “The wines are all top notch, and I love that they include notes to help you learn about what you're sipping.” The added educational material will make it easy to learn about the different varieties and regions, and, if you find something you love, you get credits towards purchasing a full bottle. My advice? Get your friends in on it and host a monthly wine club where you can join in on VineBox’s Sommelier led virtual tasting videos. “It's like hosting an at-home wine tasting from the comfort of your sofa,” Davison adds.

Each month, you’ll get three recipes that’ll make 12 cocktails and everything else you’ll need—besides the alcohol—like bitters, garnishes, syrups and the lot. “Whether it's for myself or as a gift, their boxes make you feel like a bartender at home and give you the ability to craft exciting cocktails that you'd never attempt otherwise—either because the ingredients are hard to find or too pricey to buy in bulk,” says Christina Mastroianni, senior vice president at Gallery Media Group.

Psst, they’ll even send you an email with online tutorials, alcohol suggestions, bar tools you’ll need to make your cocktails and a playlist pairing to bump while you concoct, shake and enjoy your drinks. “It makes entertaining effortless and is a delightful treat for yourself, or a showstopper when mixing drinks for friends,” Mastroianni adds.

What I Don't Like

FabFitFun

If you love the idea of subscription boxes, but want them to be more well-rounded, FabFitFun’s quarterly box comes with a mix of seasonal products across beauty, home, health, wellness and fashion that you can fully customize. “I've been subscribed to FabFitFun for a couple of years now and I'm always so excited when it’s time to customize my box every few months,” says LaBarbera. “It’s great that there are so many options so you can really choose things you'll definitely use, rather than just getting things at random like some other boxes.”

And that pricey annual fee? Totally worth it in LaBarbera’s eyes because that’s what gives you autonomy over your box...and I must admit, I understand the hype. My first FabFitFun box did not disappoint. I was surprised to find a Summer Fridays lip butter balm, Free People candle that smelled like autumn and the prettiest Cover FX highlighter palette. If you’re not into the month’s picks, you can opt to receive credit to shop other FabFitFun products in the future. Plus, you’ll get access to exclusive offers from their brand partners and options to add additional items to your box.

My Girl Wellness

Got gut issues? This Better Belly supplement subscription box (that you can receive at a discount when you use coupon code PUREWOW15 at checkout) just might be answer to all your gassy, bloated and painful issues. I suffer from hidden food intolerances, and even after cutting out those inflammatory culprits, I still have gut issues. Once I started taking My Girl Wellness consecutively, my health exponentially improved. This all-natural system targets bad bacteria in your gut, helping reduce bloat and improve digestion.

When I asked my naturopathic doctor to check out my Gut Goals probiotic, he was impressed to see that it contains 5 billion CFU (colony forming units)—in other words, it passed the doc’s inspection. The Eat Your Heart Out are digestive enzymes you’ll want to take before a meal to help with absorption of nutrients and the breakdown of food. (Your body naturally produces these, however the production decreases with age.) And I think you can guess what the You Go Girl supplements do…they make you go (number two). It’s made with magnesium, artichoke leaf extract and other powerful, natural ingredients. I’ve never had a more consistent bowel movement than when I’m taking my YGG every night before bed. TMI? Sorry, not sorry.

Arrae

As I previously mentioned, I suffer from intense bloating (see above), and one of my favorite ways to combat it is with Arrae’s Bloat supplement, which just so happens to be Hailey Bieber’s secret weapon, too. Packed with natural ingredients like ginger root, lemon balm and dandelion root, these supplements are the real deal and a great way to relieve discomfort or bloat fast. Best of all, any one of their cult-favorite products is eligible for subscription, and you can always switch out products for when you want to try something new or alter the frequency that it sends. In fact, I often flip-flop between Bloat, Sleep and Calm. When I take the brand’s sleep supplements, I reach the the highest sleep score on my Oura ring, and the calm pills helped me survive my Maid of Honor speech at my sister’s wedding without a single shake in sight.

Think: a beaded bracelet, baseball cap, swim trunks, cold brew concentrate, roll-on fragrance oil, face mask and so much more. Prior boxes included Prada cologne, PureWow-approved Mighty Patch pimple patches, Harry’s natural deodorant and a deck of playing cards. Psst, that’s more than $200 worth of products sent to the lucky guy in your life every for the bargain price of $59 (or a total of $236 per year) quarterly or $216 annually.

It’s one of Masin’s favorite ways to spoil her husband. “My husband's face lights up every time he receives the GQ subscription box. He likes that a lot of the brands are ones that he hasn't heard of before, especially for the products like aftershave or sunscreen—stuff men don't do a whole lot of research on and just grab what they see at the drugstore. It is a little heavy on the beauty side (like shaving essentials, cologne, etc.) but overall, there's a good mix of fashion, beauty and home gadget-y type of products.”

The Bouqs Co.

Out of gift ideas for that one person who has everything? Fret not, because everything’s coming up roses (literally). With Bouqs, they’ll get fresh-cut flowers delivered directly from sustainable farms to their door on a weekly, bi-monthly or monthly basis. According to Davison, who conducted an in-depth review of the most popular flower delivery services, Bouqs Co. takes things to the next level. The company not only includes tips for keeping the flowers looking fresh longer, but they also explain how much you’ll need to trim the stems to make the arrangement fit the bouquet perfectly. She even reports that allergy sufferers will appreciate that the blooms aren’t super fragrant.

With the choice of all roses, classic blooms, seasonal or farmers market arrangements, you can customize each delivery to your recipient’s taste and choose the shipping speed (no rush, next day and same day). And did I mention that Bouqs has an entire section dedicated to occasion-specific arrangements, from apology and new baby bouquets to sympathy and housewarming flowers. Looks like you’ll have a gift for every occasion, including those ‘just because’ moments.

Book of the Month Club

Picture this: The bookstore comes to you every month. That’s kind of what it’s like when you join the Book of the Month Club community. At the end of every month, you’ll receive a list of five buzzy new titles to choose from and a credit to purchase one of them, so you’ll never be without new reading material. “I love that it introduces me to new releases, new authors and new genres I might not have picked up on my own,” says Yohay. “Because so many of the books are new or even early releases, I feel very ‘in the know’ within the book world. The books themselves are also beautiful—all hardcover with special jackets that I love collecting. Plus, I save a ton with an annual subscription (as opposed to buying individually online or at the bookstore).”

However, she isn’t the biggest fan of when she doesn’t find a book that sparks her interest, as her credit won’t apply towards other books within their library unless a monthly selection is made. On the bright side, you can skip a box if you’re behind on your reading list (and keep the credit to use for later down the line) or add additional books if you’re a bonafide bookworm. “It's truly such a fun (and inexpensive) way to treat yourself each month,” she adds.

What I Like

  • aids in child development
  • teaches children about emotions and the world around them
  • equips kids to learn how to overcome challenges

What I Don't Like

Lovevery

Another standout Dellner would be lost without? Lovevery. They set out to equip children from zero to five with stage-based play essentials, which are award-winning play products—designed by academics, researchers, experts and child specialists—that support your baby’s brain development. As Dellner states, it’s the stuff you wouldn’t think to buy or find anywhere else, for that matter. Think: books on frustration management, microscopes, turtle games and so much more that’ll keep your little one engaged.

“Lovevery toys are thoughtful and beautiful, and a nice alternative to the sea of plastic toys littered around my house. Not every item in the box will be a smash hit (we've had a few that were played with once and never again...), but the vast majority of them will teach your kid something about their emotions, the world around them, how to overcome challenges, or just themselves. It's also very cool to read the messages about each toy and learn about what your child is going through developmentally at this age,” says Dellner.

Petite n’ Pretty’s Sparkle Squad subscription box is for your little MUA in-training, with products they’ll need to perfect a face full of glam like sparkly eyeshadow, lipgloss and mascara, plus fun frilly add-ons, including nail art stickers, pouches and more.

“I sent my samples to a family friend who has children, [and she told me that] the girls absolutely loved the eyeshadow and blush. They loved the sparkle of it and they even commented on the attractive packaging,” Wu tells me. “They used the jade roller and said it was cold and refreshing even without putting it in the freezer. I think they felt very professional using it. They really really liked the facial mask! It dried in the allotted amount of time and peeled off with a lot of sparkles, which the girls found fun." Petite ‘n Pretty sends each box in a fun theme, too—think: a back-to-school box, holiday box, summer box and spring box.

30. Farmer’s Dog

What I Like

  • pre-packaged, customizable meals made with real food, no preservatives
  • fantastic customer service
  • storage box included

What I Don't Like

  • pricey
  • takes up a lot of space in the freezer

Farmer’s Dog

“I wholeheartedly believe all dog food is not made equal, [and] I wanted to make sure we were giving our dog great quality meals,” says Gallery Media Group Senior Director of Social Strategy Aly Owens. “I love the subscription of Farmer's Dog because I can set it and forget it—meals are replenished at the same time every month and their team send text updates on your order. They also customize the meals for your dog’s breed, weight, etc. Biggest plus: My dog gobbles it up. Biggest con: I don't have any space in my freezer for my own Trader Joe's frozen food.” You’ll want to make room for these nutritious meals, though. Made with real food in USDA kitchens, this pet food was developed by vets who nixed the preservatives, processed kibble, misleading labels and diseased meats.

Simply personalize your pet’s food according to your dog’s needs, from caloric intake to age, then deliveries come individually packaged in clear packets that you can just tear open and poor directly into your dog’s bowl to enjoy. A clear shiny coat and an odorless dog is just a few meals away.

Best Dog Treat and Toy Subscription Box

31. BarkBox

What I Like

  • option to customize box
  • includes treats and various toys
  • themed and festive boxes

What I Don't Like

  • your dog will begin to expect new toys

BarkBox

Show your pup you love 'em back with a monthly themed delivery of toys and treats valued at over $40, tailored to his or her size and weight. Your yapper will love the boxes so much, they’ll start to expect them every time you get a delivery. Don’t believe me? My dog nephew Nash now thinks every box that comes through the door is his, barking with excitement whenever my sister unboxes a rather disappointing (for him) restock of pimple patches.

LaBarbera tells me that her parents get this for their three dogs, saying, “[They] get so excited over all the new toys each month, which always have a super cute theme, and it comes with enough treats to last them a while.” Cuddly, squeaky, fluffy—you name it and it’s most likely included. What’s more, there’s an option to tailor each box to your dog’s needs and preferences (i.e., size, breed, play styles, food sensitives and chew styles, to name a few).

Fast Facts

  • What You Get: two toys, two all-natural bags of treats and a chew toy
  • Subscription Frequency: monthly, six- and twelve-month prepaid plans available (option to skip, pause or cancel anytime)
  • Shipping: free shipping when you add extra toys and treats, otherwise calculated at checkout
  • Price: from $22 per month

What to Consider When Shopping for Subscription Boxes for Everyone

  • Your needs and wants: Before you go buying any which subscription box above, you’ll want to figure out what you’re in the market for. From clothes to beauty to meal kits, these subscription boxes run the gamut, letting you easily indulge in products you truly love. Need more undies? Try an underwear subscription. Toys for your dog? I got a BarkBox option calling your name.
  • Shipping frequency: As someone who’s tried a handful of subscription boxes, including clothing, wellness, books and more, I understand how hard it is to keep track of every shipment (and payment). While majority of the subscription boxes above send every month or quarter, others give you the option to modify the frequency, so make sure you mark it down in your calendar. That way you’ll never be surprised by a credit card charge or delivery at your door.
  • The charges and fees: The prices of subscription boxes will vary from company to company, so pay attention to the price breakdowns before committing to a month-by-month send. Some subscriptions, like many of the clothing boxes, will have a styling fee that’ll charge extra money, but they’ll credit it back if you purchase an item. What’s more, majority of brands feature multiple payment plans with added discounts, including annual payment plans with significant markdowns.

I’m so glad you asked. The short answer is no, you don’t have to receive a subscription box monthly.
