How to Make Whipped Lemonade, the Summery Bev Taking TikTok by Storm

Summer’s official drink is no doubt lemonade. It’s bright, refreshing and strikes just the right balance between sweet and sour. (Plus, it pairs pretty darn well with all the grilled delicacies of the season.) Thanks to TikTok, there’s a new rendition of the classic bev that’s on our to-drink list: whipped lemonade. Luckily, the frothy, light-as-air concoction is a breeze to make since you only need three ingredients and about five minutes to whip it up.

How To Make Whipped Lemonade

It’s *so* simple, friends. Whipped lemonade tastes just like the sipper you know and love, but it’s creamier and with more body, almost like melted lemon sherbet or lemon-vanilla ice cream. Whipped lemonade is basically just lemonade-infused whipped cream made sippable with the addition of water. The only special ingredient required is lemonade mix—both classic and pink work fine. Once you’ve chosen your mix, it’s as simple as frothing it with heavy cream until combined, then diluting the mixture with water. Half-and-half will work too, though the final result will be a bit thinner. Coconut cream is a solid vegan alternative.

Other recipes call on whipped topping and condensed milk to thicken and sweeten the drink (especially for blended versions of the drink), or fresh-squeezed lemon juice instead of mix. Some TikTokkers even use Kool-Aid powder instead of lemonade mix. But our take is hands-down the quickest route from zero to whipped lemonade.

Like dalgona coffee, the key to whipped lemonade is whipping the ingredients together to aerate them, resulting in a fluffy final product. A whisk (and a bit of elbow grease), hand or stand mixer, or milk frother will do the trick. Here’s what you’ll need to make whipped lemonade.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons lemonade mix (we used Country Time)
  • ¼ cup heavy whipping cream, half and half or coconut cream
  • ¾ cup water (or more to taste, if you like it less sour)

Step 1: Combine the lemonade mix and cream in a bowl. Whisk or froth them together until thick and combined, about 2 to 5 minutes depending on your whipping method and ingredient of choice.

Step 2: In a cup or glass, combine the water and the whipped lemonade mixture. Stir or froth until combined. Add ice if desired and serve immediately so the lemonade doesn’t deflate.

Other Ways To Make Whipped Lemonade

The possibilities are truly endless. Start with a summery riff starring in-season produce, like mangoes, peaches, strawberries or raspberries. You can blend the fruit into purée or juice first, then add it to the drink with the water. You can also add fresh herbs like basil, mint or lavender to the fruit, or use them solo in an infused simple syrup that’ll complement the lemonade’s sweet-tart flavor. Of course, you can also spike the beverage with vodka, rum, gin, tequila or even whiskey to turn it into a cocktail.

Another popular iteration that you might have seen on TikTok is blended lemonade. Instead of leaning on lemonade mix, all it takes is blending prepared lemonade with ice in a blender until it’s to your desired slushy texture, then topping each drink with lemonade mix-infused whipped cream (aka whipped lemonade minus the water). The pink mix is extra Insta-worthy as a topper.

If you don’t have lemonade mix on hand but want to fancy up a regular glass of lemonade, simply whip a few drops of red food coloring with a couple glugs of heavy cream or coconut milk for a frothy pink garnish. Bonus points for serving it in a fun cocktail glass with a tiny paper umbrella.
