Taco Bell recently launched—wait for it—chicken nuggets. I had my doubts until I read PureWow VP of editorial Candace Davison’s review of them. (Spoiler: They’re surprisingly tasty.) So, I have very high hopes about the fast food chain’s latest new menu item, Cheesy Dipping Burritos.
Taco Bell’s Newest Menu Item Is Saucy, Customizable and Oh-So Cheesy
Dunk your heart out
For just $4.99 a la carte (price varies by location), you’ll get a pair of miniature burritos that are loaded with melty cheese and your choice of protein. (Options include grilled, marinated steak or Cantina slow-roasted chicken, which I had the pleasure of trying when it launched last summer.) Even better, the handhelds come with your choice of dip: creamy chipotle, nacho cheese sauce or reduced-fat sour cream.
Before you order a dozen for your snacking pleasure, allow me to make a suggestion. As a food editor, I’ve had to taste and rank every Taco Bell dip and sauce on the menu. Of the three aforementioned offerings, the sour cream is my go-to. It’s not the tangiest you’ll ever try, but I’m not a fan of the chipotle sauce’s artificial smokiness (TLDR: it tastes like spicy bacon bits), and the nacho cheese feels a bit redundant paired with this particular menu item. If I were you, I’d choose sour cream and your go-to hot sauce (Fire is my fave) or a side of red sauce (its enchilada-like energy makes it vibrant, earthy and just spicy enough).
If you’re feeling extra peckish, you can also try the Cheesy Dipping Burritos as part of the Discovery Luxe Box, which also includes a crunchy taco, Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos taco, cinnamon twists and a fountain drink. Meet me at the drive-thru?
