It’s no secret: Groceries are expensive nowadays (darn you, inflation). Opting for generic over name brands and buying in bulk may help, but at the end of the day, it still feels like you’re paying north of $80 for just a handful of essentials. Luckily, a new service is launching on Oct. 4 that may help you cut costs: Martie online grocery. Read on to find out how you can reportedly save up to 70 percent on your favorite items.

What Is Martie Online Grocery?

Martie is an online grocery store that stocks its digital shelves with heavily discounted surplus groceries. The selection ranges from shelf-stable staples to specialty gourmet brands, including Brightland, Aura Bora, OffLimits and Somos.

Commerce director Nicole Briese got to try Martie for herself. “While the brand options are somewhat limited for launch, you can find some serious steals on the site, like Brightland olive oil for $20 off its usual price, as well as everyday essentials, like Dial body wash,” she explains. “As for the process, it’s totally seamless: Simply browse the online ‘aisles,’ add what you want to your cart and check out your savings. Your order will be delivered straight to your door in one to five days.”

How Does Martie Online Grocery Work?

You won’t need a subscription to try Martie online grocery. Simply scour the website’s (or app’s) categories for all your favorites, add them to your cart and check out. In a few days, they’ll arrive on your doorstep in durable, recycled packaging. (Martie currently ships to 48 U.S. states.) Shipping costs a base price of $6 (this can increase depending on where you live), but you’ll score free shipping on orders $50 and up. You’ll also need to pay a $2 handling fee.

Because the inventory is made up of surplus products, you’ll save big by buying through Martie. On average, Martie shoppers save $54 per order or $600 per year with 47 percent of customers returning month over month, per the brand. Since 2021, the company has saved shoppers more than $3 million in food and household items.

Bonus? Buying surplus not only saves you money, but it also prevents food waste. Martie snags items that would typically be tossed due to overstock, canceled orders, packaging changes, seasonality or best by dates. So far, the brand has kept more than 2 million pounds of food out of the landfill and conserved more than 131 million gallons of water. We call that a win-win.
