It’s burger night, folks, and that means all the toppings are out to impress. (Here’s looking at you, juicy heirloom tomato.) But before you go stacking your beloved burger, take our advice on how to assemble it. Yes, there is a right way.
What you’ll need: Ground beef, salt and pepper, brioche bun, condiments and toppings like cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce and pickles
Step 1: Mix the ground beef, salt and pepper together with your hands. Be careful not to overmix.
Step 2: Divide the mixture into fourths and shape the patties with your hands. Press your thumb into the middle of each patty to prevent puffing.
Step 3: Cook over medium-high heat until you’ve reached your desired doneness. Add the cheese a few moments before removing from the heat so it has time to melt.
For the assembly: Starting with the bottom half of the bun, add your condiments and then the pickles.(The condiments keep the pickles from sliding out.) Next comes the burger, followed by a slice of tomato. Why? That warm cheese keeps the tomato in place. Finish it off with lettuce, onion and the top half of the bun. Then scarf it down.
