Courteney Cox Shares Mac and Cheese Recipe (and Apparently We’ve Been Making It Wrong Our Entire Life)

Four types of cheese? Say less.

Courteney Cox may be most famous for her role as Monica Geller—a chef—in Friends, but did you know that the actress is also a total foodie and an excellent cook IRL? Seriously! Her five-ingredient baked chicken is *chef's kiss* and her hamburger soup recipe is the ultimate comfort dish. Now the A-lister is tackling another fan-favorite dish and I, for one, plan on trying it out ASAP.

Cox partnered up with private chef and food content creator Arya Hamedani for the recipe, who starts out by telling her Instagram followers: “You've been making your mac and cheese wrong your entire life!”

Cox quickly interjects, saying: “He's such a bully. That's not true. Yours is good,” before adding, “this might be better.”

The duo then proceed to make the dish, starting with melting a whopping two pounds of butter into a big pot. Next, Cox adds “a boatload” of flour a little at a time, before incorporating milk and salt into the pan.

Then it’s time for the star ingredient of the dish—and when it comes to the cheese, Cox uses a triple threat of grated sharp cheddar, mozzarella and Gruyère in her mac.

Now that the sauce is ready, it’s time to make the pasta. And chef Arya has a tip for making sure yours doesn’t “taste like sh*t”—cook the pasta for three minutes less than the box says. Once the pasta is done, Cox reserves some of the cooking water, strains the noodles and then adds in the sauce.

The Scream star tries to add some pepper into the dish, but chef Arya isn't having it. “It's not a cacio e pepe,” he says.

Now here’s where it gets interesting. For the final step, Cox layers up the mac and cheese into a deep dish pan and tops it with more mozzarella and then another layer of pasta before topping it all with Panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese. The cooking pair then broil the dish in the oven to get a nice golden crust and add some chopped chives on top before digging in.

The result is an ooey-gooey cheese lover's dream. “Oh my God!” Cox says, while tasting the dish. “Took a long time but worth every single bite!”

Four types of cheese, plenty of butter and a crispy topping? This might just be my new mac and cheese go-to.
