Is a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream often a single serving at your house? Understandable. Now instead of stocking your freezer with a dozen of them to feed a crowd, you can turn to the one-of-a-kind brand’s Scoop-apalooza line, which comes in 28-ounce containers that serve five people (theoretically, anyway). Depending on where you buy them, they range from $7.28 to $9.99 a pop. I tried all four varieties myself to find out which are the tastiest. Read on for a food editor’s honest review.
Ben & Jerry’s Just Launched 4 New Ice Creams in Super-Sized Pints—Here’s a Food Editor’s Ranking
We all scream
- What Is It: chocolate ice cream with fudge swirls
I audibly said “wow” when I saw how much sticky, gooey fudge was packed into the ice cream. Impressively large pools of the stuff await you in this oversized pint. The texture wasn’t my favorite, as it left a drying film on my tongue, but the chocolate flavor was rich and indulgent without being overwhelming.
- What Is It: sweet cream ice cream with strawberry swirls
Sweet-tart and very creamy, I really enjoyed this pick. (I’m admittedly one of those fruit dessert people—don’t @ me.) I wish it had thicker ribbons of strawberry, but what’s there was still delicious. The simple ice cream base allowed the fruit’s brightness to really shine.
- What Is It: coffee ice cream with fudge chips
There were *so* many fudge chips in this latte-like variety. It tasted like a just-sweet-enough iced coffee, yet it was still roasty and slightly bitter, like you want a cup of joe to be. The chocolate bits not only offered crunch, but also a balancing sweetness to every spoonful.
- What Is It: vanilla ice cream with fudge brownie chunks
I was a huge fan of Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Brownie ice cream—may she rest in peace—so I was psyched to try this one. TBH, I had no notes. The custardy, creamy base was the ultimate foil for fudgy, chewy brownies that were pretty plentiful and sizeable. I’d argue this is the most kid-friendly option of the bunch, too.
