You spotted them on your Instagram feed last fall, but suddenly it’s as if everyone you know is wearing a diamond tennis necklace. How can they all afford it, you ask? You have Megan Strachan to thank.
Strachan is the founder of Dorsey, a fine jewelry brand—named after her late grandmother—that uses lab-grown diamonds to create some of the most coveted vintage revival pieces on the market today. In fact, the company sold over a million lab-grown gemstones in 2022. Strachan is a firm believer that lab-grown stones are the future, making trends like the resurgence of the cocktail ring a reality for more than just the Royals.
On top of being named one of Glossy’s Top Marketers of 2023, Strachan also happens to have an addicting Substack titled What I Put On Today and a fascinating Instagram feed where she not only chronicles her impeccable style, but also gets real about the difficulties of being an entrepreneur and a mother. If that topic interests you in the least, it’s worth listening to her amazing podcast episode on Second Life with Hilary Kerr. The gist: Being a founder is lonely, but Megan’s vulnerability and transparency is creating a community that is far from isolated.
Stop agonizing over lab-grown diamonds. “They are molecularly identical to mined diamonds and recognized by the FTC,” Strachan told us. “The only difference is the source: Lab-grown diamonds are created under heat and pressure in a controlled lab setting, while mined diamonds are created under heat and pressure in the earth.”
