We’d like to think we’re on a real first-name basis with “Dr. Becky,” and it can sometimes feel that way when watching her candid, talk-to-camera videos about the world of parenting. “Okay, get ready, I have a very doable tip. It’s going to take you about five seconds to do,” she tells her Instagram audience of nearly 2 million while walking down a scaffold-covered sidewalk in NYC. (The tip, BTW, was to sympathize with an uncooperative child by saying something like, “It can be really hard to be a kid, right?”)

From a hack for getting kids to brush their teeth before bed to what to do when your child lies to you, Dr. Rebecca Kennedy, clinical psychologist and mom of three, gives grownups practical ways to tackle personal and family struggles—accompanied by bite-size social media tips that spread like wildfire, especially during the height of the pandemic. That virality helped her launch the Good Inside empire in 2022: a newsletter, podcast and membership-based workshop platform in partnership with clinical psychologist Erica Belsky. Celebs like Kristen Bell, Glennon Doyle, Ashton Kutcher and Kelly Ripa are fans.

Dubbed “the millennial parenting whisperer” by TIME, Kennedy released her first book, the New York Times bestselling Good Inside: A Guide to Becoming the Parent You Want to Be, in fall 2022. Whatever’s next from Dr. Becky, we know we’ll be listening (and setting up healthy boundaries along the way).

ADVICE for the GROUP CHAT:

How to get your child to tell you about their day with more than, “It was fine”? Play a game of true or false, which turns the pressure of a question into the playfulness of a game. Example: You played on the monkey bars at recess today. Kid’s response: “True!” (FYI: This works for spouses too.)
