Marie Kondo has The Magical Art of Tidying Up, The Home Edit has its labeling system and wardrobe stylist Allison Bornstein has the Three Word Method.

If the name Allison Bornstein sounds familiar, it’s because she’s not only the brilliant sartorial mind behind a lot of Katie Holmes’s style renaissance (the wide-legged jeans! The tiger print boots! The polka-dot tights!), she’s also the brilliant sartorial mind helping women everywhere feel better about themselves through what they wear.

Three years ago, Bornstein started offering virtual styling sessions “to make women feel good and taken care of” during the pandemic. In turn, she began frequently sharing her best tips and advice through clever greenscreen videos on TikTok. Fast-forward to this year and she’s amassed a loyal social following, her Wrong Shoe Theory has gone viral and she just launched her first book, Wear It Well.

What makes this LA/NY-based stylist so beloved? Bornstein believes that fashion is wellness and that getting dressed is a version of self-care. By working with a variety of women, she’s become an expert in the art of cultivating personal style and best of all—she doesn’t gatekeep her secrets.

ADVICE for the GROUP CHAT:

How do you find the three words that encapsulate your personal style? Bornstein recommends assigning meaning to each word: one that reflects your baseline style, another that captures your aspiration, and a third that is more emotional and describes how you want to feel.
