How I Chose the Best Zara Pieces for Summer

As a fashion commerce editor, I’ve done my share of shopping, especially at Zara, where I’ve been a loyal customer since its first storefront opened in Spain. Throughout the years, I’ve developed a knack for curating looks and sourcing the best picks that are trending, in excellent quality and use top-notch materials that’ll last you years to come. I applied my expertise to this list, prioritizing options that come in summer-friendly fabrics like 100 percent cotton or linen, have breezy draping for ample airflow (especially for the polyester blends picks), and are cut in comfortable silhouettes that still flatter. To ensure a diverse assortment, I also recruited a few PureWow editors of varying body types to share the Zara pieces they’re eyeing for summer of 2024.

“I'm so into the tie-front top trend right now,” PureWow Wellness Director Sarah Stiefvater tells me. “And this is such an elevated take. (The ties aren't adjustable but it's a similar vibe.) I'd style it with either loose, lighter-wash blue jeans or my favorite breezy linen trousers.” The silhouette is on the fitted side, so it should hug your natural waist and curves nicely, plus there’s a zip closure hidden at the side that makes it easy to slip on and off.

Here’s a sexy, slinky dress for summer complete with tasteful cutouts and strappy details. It certainly caught the eye of Senior Commerce Editor Stephanie Maida. She says, “I love the unique detailing on this midi dress that makes it look way more expensive than its price tag, and the fact that the cutout hits at a super flattering spot. I don't love huge cutouts on clothing, but this seems like it shows just a hint of skin in the right place.” Couple that with the slit at the leg and you’ve got yourself one sultry summer slip.

Look like a million bucks on a vacation to the Italian Riviera or while hosting a gathering in your backyard…this satin set is that versatile. The top and bottoms are made from 100 percent viscose, giving it that silky texture and brilliant sheen, and there are side vents at the hem of the blouse, making it feel extra relaxed and breezy.

Look like you’ve just stepped out of the early aughts in these open-toe leather heels. They’re retro yet modern and come in a neutral color that’ll pair well with almost anything in your closet: denim jeans, satin midi skirts, shorts, sundresses, you name it. I especially like its silver-toned hardware, which is poised to become one of the biggest summer fashion trends this year. Best of all? The heel height measures in at 2.6-inches, so it’ll give you a little height without sacrificing too much on comfort or stability.

Anyone else picturing this satin V-neck beauty on a royal—perhaps Zara Tindall, Princess Eugenie or Kate Middleton? Ya, I thought so. This raspberry pink dress features long sleeves and a midi length that’s classy and regal. It even has a hidden zipper hidden along the in-seam so you can slip in and out of it easily. All that’s missing is a statement necklace and some pointed toe pumps to finish off the look.

Full skirts are another big trend right now, so I had to include this box pleated number. It’s made from a cotton and elastane blend, so it should feel ultra lightweight, breathable and incorporate a teensy bit of stretch, plus it has a mid-waist fit that falls just at or below your bellybutton (depending on the height of your torso). It’ll look chic with a white baby tee, a bralette or swimsuit top sitting poolside or with a bodysuit. That’s the beauty about a flouncy, voluminous skirt; it can really enhance the most basic pieces. My favorite detail, however, is the pronounced tonal topstitching and the fact that it’s lined.

I’ve been meaning to expand my evening bag collection, and this pearlescent clutch is first on my list. It’s regal and looks expensive. Plus, it even comes with a chain crossbody strap, so you can dress it down and wear it hands-free if you want.

With these high-waisted jeans, you can nix having to deal with awkward hems or weighed-down DIY cuffs because they come complete with turned-up cuffs that won’t cut you off at an unflattering spot. The cotton jeans follow a wide-leg silhouette that’ll look just as good with a pair of booties as it does with some comfortable flip flops, so you can easily dress them up or down.

We all love the basics, but who says you can’t zhoosh things up a little? (Not I.) This sleeveless knit top has a classic crewneck and white contrast piping along the neck and arms, creating a striking juxtaposition against the black material. (Though it does come in other colors, as well, including red, white and a soon-to-come butter yellow.)

If you’re still into the mob wife aesthetic, then you’ll love this animal print midi skirt. The satin effect silhouette is designed to drape elegantly off your hips, sitting straight on them and giving a slimming effect that won’t squeeze you uncomfortably at all. Oh, and did I mention it has an elastic waistband, too? According to the brand, it runs slightly large so you may want to consider sizing down if you’re in-between sizes.

If you’re going to wear a blazer in the summer, then you want to make sure you’re doing it right. Opt for a structed cut and a cropped fit like this one; I also recommend going for a looser silhouette (because it’s going to get hot out there) and a traditional round neck collar. Bonus points if it comes in a bright, cheery colorway like this butter yellow. The front welt pockets and gold hardware makes it feel extra luxe, too.

A wide-brim visor is a great way to keep your face and skin protected from the sun, and this one from Zara is chic as can be and $30. The black woven hat is made from cellulose paste, which is known to take on similar properties as cotton. As someone with a large head—and always struggles to find a one-size-fits-all hat—I appreciate the fact that there’s an adhesive strap fastening at the back that affords me full customization over its fit.

I’ll be living in linen shirts and linen pants all summer long, so a linen vest is exactly the vibe I want to emulate this season. It’s cool, relaxed and on-trend right now, and I like that this waistcoat has a more loose-fitting cut, as it provides a nice balance to the tailoring. Style it with matching shorts or trousers for a sharp-looking ensemble or dress it down with denim for a more low-key affair; either way, you can’t go wrong because it’s that versatile.

Whether you’re preparing for your bridal shower or headed to a semi-formal outdoor wedding, this adorable mini dress can fit the bill. It features an immense bow at the back that’s every bit as dramatic as it is feminine, so if you’re looking for a flirty frock that can make a statement, look no further. Not to mention, the A-line fit and flare silhouette and V-neckline is oh-so flattering on many body shapes, whether you have big or small boobs.

Swap out your white tank top for one that’s a little more intricate like this poplin blouse. It has adjustable spaghetti straps, which will come in handy if you want to keep the material from digging into your armpits, and front ties that make it look ultra frilly.

Shirtdresses are one of the most versatile pieces I own, and this printed cotton number has the most darling floral print and all the traditional aspects I look for in a good shirtdress, like a lapel collar, front patch pockets, button closures down the front and, of course, an adjustable belt at the waist that’ll cinch you in and complement your figure. And you can bet that green-colored print will photograph so well, too.

PureWow’s Editorial Assistant, Courtney Mason, never thought the baggy jorts trend would make a comeback, but alas...If you’re going to dip your toe back into this early aughts look, then I suggest something sleek, such as these straight-leg jean shorts that won’t look quite as old school as a true denim blue pair but still has that sporty edge. Also, you’ll find that the longer hem will be way more comfortable and offer more coverage than the booty shorts of yore.

Summer events are just around the corner, so you’ll want to include this lime green midi dress in the lineup. Thanks to the midi length, you can wear it with comfortable heels or sandals without the hem sitting too long or short with it. The details are breathtaking, too, from the lightweight and silky fabric to the striking straps that cross along the back (which will feel extra supportive on the girls as you boogey all night).

It appears Zara is hopping on the edible print trend with these strawberry earrings. They’re outrageously fun and will look oh-so delectable dangling from your ears. If you’ve been contemplating buying into the trend, these affordable earrings are a great way to test the waters. I bet you’ll receive plenty of compliments the next time you wear them, too.

This linen summer tank top is for anyone who wants to try the vest trend but can’t seem to invest in it just yet. It has that structured feel to it with the faux welt pockets and front button closure, but it also incorporates a straight neckline and spaghetti straps for a modern twist that feels more in-line with a basic tank top. Still classy and easy to wear with almost anything, you can pair it with some trousers one day and cargo pants the next.

Date night calls for something romantic and sexy, but still comfortable. Something that can be worn to a nice dinner or even the movie theater. Something like this asymmetrical cape shirt, perhaps. It gives you a shoulder baring, peek-a-boo moment but still offers plenty of coverage with its full length and long cape sleep. Best of all? It’s made from a stretchy fabric that’s comprised of polyester and elastane, so it should feel relatively comfortable on; however, the brand does note that it runs small, so you may want to size up.

Don’t sleep on Zara’s swimsuit collection, people. I found this one-piece swimsuit that I’ll be living in this summer. Usually, one-pieces sacrifice on style for more coverage and support, but not this suit. It has an arresting asymmetrical neckline that goes into a black and white contrasting cord strap. Not only is there a cheeky amount of bum coverage, but it’s also lined.

When in doubt, always opt for a pair of straight-leg jeans. They’re flattering, comfortable and classic. These light wash jeans have an unfinished raw hem that’ll look great when paired with a heeled sandal. Depending on the size you get, they can either fit slim and slightly rigid or loose and slightly baggy if you size up, thanks to the 100 percent cotton material, Oh, and did I mention that it comes in a myriad of colors, including ecru and gray.

These shorts are the epitome of elevated minimalism. They feature elegant pleats down the front and come with a braided belt, which adds a bit more ‘lax and beachy vibe’ to the prim silhouette. Plus, the longer hemline offers a good amount of coverage.

Mark my words: You’ll be seeing blue button-up blouses everywhere this summer—as beach coverups, with boxer shorts, you name it. Here’s one that looks traditional and incorporates all the classic elements of a solid oxford shirt, such as a cotton blend, lapels at the collar and buttoned cuff sleeves. My colleague demonstrated five chic ways you can style a white button-up blouse for the summer, and you can certainly impart her tips with this sky blue shirt.

Behold: Your new bag in the “It” shade of the summer—butter yellow. It’s that ideal pop of color that looks like sunshine, yet isn’t so saturated that it takes over the rest of your ensemble. The shoulder bag also boasts an interior pocket and lining to keep all your essentials safe, plus a zip closure on top.

Here’s an effortless frock that combines a draped silhouette with a tie-dye print. It has a straight neckline that’ll look good on anyone with big boobs, and the details at the front slim your figure, creating forgiveness around the midsection. It’s casual yet regal, affordable and sexy. Don’t believe me? Just look at that side slit. A work of art.

Forget your other sandals, here’s a unique pair of slides to wear in their place this season. They’re embellished with three, shiny mesh flowers along the toe straps, so they’ll peek out from under your jeans. You can also get it with black floral appliqués, but I’m partial to the eye-catching white.

The menswear style of these pants has a loose-fitting and wide-leg silhouette that feels incredibly cool and not at all ill-fitting. There are even some pleats at the front that really elevate the look, and it comes with adjustable buttoned belt loops along the back and sides, which can create a more cinched look if you want.

Despite the summer sun, you never want to be ill-prepared for the occasional rainstorm, monsoon or overcast mornings, which is where a trench coat comes into play. This one is double-breasted and has a belt to cinch it in at the waist or you can leave it open, plus it’s made with a certified organically grown cotton and elastomultiester fabric blend that’s built for inclement weather, be it rain or wind. It also won’t feel as heavy or warm as other coats.

Orange you glad you saw this dress? (Sorry, I had to.) Here’s a midi-length sundress made of 98 percent cotton, 2 percent elastane and 100 percent style and sunshine. It’s fashioned with a swing skirt that’s begging to be twirled in and a high, round neckline that’ll give you some coverage despite its sleeveless make. I’d style it with a statement belt to give you some extra definition at the waist.

Feast your eyes on these drop metal earrings made with interesting geometric shapes and incorporating gorgeous contrasting colors, from a striking teal to a luminescent pink. They’ll dress up even the most basic T-shirt and jeans, but I’d also wear it with a formal dress to really make a statement.

Now *this* is a va-va-voom bodysuit, if I’ve ever seen one. The crisscross, asymmetrical neckline makes it extra special and is crafted to look luxe along the décolletage—just peep how it looks on the Zara model. I’m loving the ruched tulle fabric, which will  camouflage any dimples, lumps or bumps.

PureWow readers go crazy over a shirtdress, so I had to include another stunner in this summer wish list. When I saw this white cotton number, I knew it was the one. If you look closely, it has the most intricate embroidery in the fabric, making it anything but just a basic white frock. It may run slightly small, per the brand, so I suggest sizing up if you’re between sizes.

Whoever said that flat sandals are boring hasn’t seen these Zara sandals yet. They have metallic appliqué cutouts along the double straps that are vibey and so rock ‘n’ roll. Also, how comfy do those concave insoles look?

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Is Zara So Popular?

Selection, selection, selection. Zara’s appeal lies in the brand’s wide variety of options, including styles that run the gamut from vintage to pop-punk. The brand always seems to have its finger on the fashion pulse, anticipating what’s trending, knowing customer tastes and providing staples that can last for years. The sizing can be hit or miss at times, as fabrics, cuts and designs differ across the store, but Zara does note any variations in fit on their website underneath the descriptions.

First-time customer and TikToker Katerina realized the hype around Zara immediately after entering the store. “I walked in and was pleasantly surprised by all of these gorgeous pieces of clothing,” she says in a TikTok video. Overwhelmed by thousands of items, she tried on twenty pieces that were "relatively cheap” and happily walked away with white jeans and a pink tank she wore while filming. Seasoned buyers know Zara for their affordable designer lookalikes, like the slingback pumps that paid homage to Gucci last season (and garnered over one million views on TikTok).

Is Zara Expensive?

Depending on what you’re searching for, Zara has reasonable price tags that range anywhere from $9 for a ribbed tank top to $500 for a limited-edition leather dress or $900 for a leather winter coat, though you can expect the average price for pieces to run around $50 for most items. They also offer returns and exchanges 30 days from the shipment date of your order or purchase date in store. Visit the returns page for a detailed breakdown of the brand’s return and exchange policy, including postage fees and instructions.
