1. Elevated Flip Flops

I can always count on Copenhagen Fashion Week to produce unpredictable micro trends, including neck ties as a fashionable accessory. In the shoe department, one thing rang true: Flip flops are on Spring 2025’s Hot List. From Havaianas to Toteme, elevated pairs of the open-toed, casual footwear are going to be everywhere this season. Be sure to look for pairs that have vibrant hues or small heels to really take lean into the cool vibe that the Danes exemplified.

How to Style Them:

Now this idea might seem counterintuitive, but try to save the whole ‘beachy’ vibe for your scheduled vacation. Rather than wearing flip flops with denim cutoffs and a tank top, channel a street style edit and pair them with elevated pieces, such as an embellished dress and Oxford button-up or with a sheer skirt and oversize blazer. (The more unique the combo, the better.)

2. Classic Loafers

Flats in general are majorly trendy this year, but penny loafer styles with a leather or suede finish and flat sole are particularly popular right now. Be sure to look for a pair that’s simple in design and timeless in quality, as these are the type of shoes that will complete your spring capsule wardrobe. And if you’re unsure about investing in designer favorites like the Gucci Jordaan Horsebit, there are plenty of stylish pairs with that have a similar, classy look and comfortable design that won’t break the bank.

How to Style Them:

Have some fun and wear your loafers with colorful or printed socks and supremely chic and posh separates, like a midi skirt and cropped jacket, for a quirky vibe. Or use them to dress up your jeans and T-shirt on the weekend and watch how they instantly elevate your outfit compared to your sneakers.

3. Retro Sneakers

Speaking of sneakers…skater shoes and chunky dad sneakers are both great options for spring 2025, but the reigning trend is definitely the retro sneaker. Metallic, suede and even leather trainers are the way to go because this shoe trend is all about making a modern statement with an old-school design while also moving away from our worn white sneakers.

How to Style Them:

Gen Z tends to style their comfortable sneakers with chunky socks and either classic trousers or printed pants like the picture above, while millennials seem to prefer sleeker socks that poke out just at the ankle (or our beloved no-show styles) and straight-leg jeans. But the beauty of these shoes is that they can be made to work with just about anything in your wardrobe, from sundresses to suits. The key is to have fun with it and let the shoe do all the talking (and walking).

4. Clogs

The boho revival is still going strong, so prepare yourself to see lots of throwback clogs (yes, really) in the near future. After seeing Sydney Sweeney adopt the relics of the Chloé runway, it’s only a matter of time for people to follow suit and embrace their inner Farrah Fawcett. While I expect to see plenty of traditional closed-toe options at the ready, I’m also gearing up for peep-toe designs to take the lead.

How to Style Them:

My favorite way to wear a ‘70s-era shoe will always be with other ‘70s-era staples—flare jeans with a ruffled top, mini skirt and a lightweight knit or a modern leather or suede ensemble. They have a naturally chunky and earthy nature, thanks to their wooden platforms, so they also pair beautifully with sundresses and floaty midis.

5. Riding Boots

Leave it to Kendall Jenner, who wore riding boots in Aspen during the beginning of the year, to bring back the equestrian style. It only seems right for the refined, classic shoe to have its moment following the hype around knee-high boots. Watching the celebration of estate-chicness at Burberry’s F/W 2025 collection, there were plenty of sleek leather boots stomping down the runway, so if you know what’s good for you, you’re going to want to snag a pair for yourself. Lean toward the classics that have a quality finish only a craftsman could make and look for boots that are curved along the knees if you like a flattering finish.

How to Style Them:

This might sound wrong, especially if you’re a millennial, but show off the sleekness of the tall boot shaft with skinny jeans, leggings, jeggings or anything slim-fitting, then balance the top portion out with something chunkier, like a cropped knit, or tailored, like an hourglass blazer. You can also wear the boots under flowy midi skirts or maxi dresses if you want to give your legs a breather.

6. Hunter Boots

Since the beginning of fall, I’ve watched as Hunter Boots slowly regained their popularity with the help of Twisters star Daisy Edgar Jones, and—mark my words—the love for the waterproof rain boots is only getting started. I’ve never met a more functional, durable or practical boot, but apart from the functional design, a Hunter boot is rather charming, too. And people are beginning to appreciate them now that the fisherman aesthetic is garnering attention, and, let’s face it, these totally fit into the let’s-go-down-to-the-dock vibe.

How to Style Them:

While you can never go wrong with the classic black colorway, my money’s on people obsessing over the hunter green and cherry red, especially considering how fashionistas are styling them like Kate Moss this spring—with boxer shorts, denim shorts or just about any kind of micro short out there. Don’t forget to wear them with a long sock and let the tops of them peer out of the rubber.
