We love a good hybrid fashion item. You know, the type that manages to bridge two seasons and is surprisingly easy to wear. There is perhaps no item that better encapsulates this idea than the shacket.

Wait, what’s a shacket?
For the uninitiated, the shacket is indeed a combination shirt and jacket—that can be worn as both. And, apologies to the denim jacket, but it’s currently our favorite summer-to-fall outerwear piece.
Most shackets have the silhouette and details of a traditional button-down shirt (one or two chest pockets, buttons along the front and a classic collar), but are made of thicker material more akin to an actual jacket. Usually done up in flannel, cotton canvas or denim, they sometimes incorporate military details like epaulettes on the shoulders. If there are also pockets on the lower half, you may see it referred to as a chore jacket.
Got it. Now, what’s the best way to rock a shacket this fall?
Take inspiration from ‘90s grunge and wear one open over a floral midi dress and trendy combat boots. Or go for a more tailored approach and button one up over a pair of skinny jeans and pointy-toe ankle boots. Even better if you add a waist-cinching belt. Shackets have long been lauded as a spectacular layering piece, but they’ve recently become even more popular, at least according to Lyst. Those using the global shopping platform to update their fall wardrobes have been searching for denim, corduroy and oversize shackets since early September, with those numbers only continuing to rise as we head into October.
So, we decided to jumpstart the search for you and found 15 easy shackets that will make the transition from summer to fall just a bit more chic.
1. bb Dakota Eldrige Jacket
Pair this classic red buffalo plaid with sleek extras like a pair of faux-leather leggings or some glittering gold jewelry to balance out the woodsy vibes.
2. munthe Tully Houndstooth Shirt Jacket
Houndstooth is a tried and true fall pattern, but if you're searching for something that gives the classic black and white fabric a twist, go for this option. The blue and white combo matches with practically everything (We're thinking of pairing this with dark wash denim and booties) and is a killer transition piece from fall to winter.
3. bdg Royce Corduroy Shirt Jacket
Who says fun pops of color are reserved for summer style? We're loving the contrast between the navy and bright mustard and pink hues on this guy. And its warm corduroy material is guaranteed to keep you nice and cozy for those brisk autumn days. It also comes in brown, black and green if you're looking for something a tad more muted.
8. frame Oversize Shirt Jacket
Planning out your annual pumpkin patch or apple picking excursions but can't figure out what to wear? Problem solved. Something about this baby's quilted texture screams fall time activities. And the chocolate color will warm up any outfit but is neutral enough to go with practically anything. Pair with a lightweight turtleneck and camal-colored ankle booties and you're good to go.
9. treasure & Bond Lightweigth Shirt Jacket
Anyone who thinks you can't wear white after Labor Day is fooling themselves. White matched with warm toned tans, bieges and browns is truly a match made in heaven. Plus, you can wear this cutie year round—from winter all the way back to fall again. Personally, we're planning on wearing this with some khaki colored denim and white flatforms.
12. Munthe Target Jacket
We know that the first color that comes to mind when you think of fall isn't a bright kelly green. But you can't deny how gosh darn cute this would look paired with a white tee and dark green, high-waisted pants. Add some black booties and crossbody bag and you have a look that is 100 percent fall-appropriate.
15. Alex Mill Pj Shirt Jacket
Linen is known for being a breathable fabric, which is why this is an awesome piece to add to your wardrobe for the transition period from summer to fall. It's simple enough to wear with your most casual of looks but can also be dressed up with high-waisted shorts, simple tee and ankle booties.
