Back in mid-March, the hunt for the perfect pair of sweatpants was on, and it seemed like everyone was focused on the same mission. Suddenly, all the sweats were sold out. From designer cotton to bargain terry cloth and, of course, the ultra-flattering styles splashed across Instagram, it was tricky to find a single pair on the web.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on a pair from Richer Poorer ($72), a brand that’s certainly a fave among the Instagram influencer set—but for good reason. While you might assume that fit doesn’t matter as much when it comes to loungewear, you’re entirely wrong. Because if you’re short like me (I’m 5’2”), you know it’s impossible to find sweatpants that aren’t so long that they drag on the floor or, if they have an elastic hem, pool around my ankle awkwardly.
I got the Richer Poorer pair in solid black and as soon as I slipped them on, I noticed something: I didn’t feel like a slob. The slim-cut of the legs, the tie-closure waistband and the slightly cropped silhouette were actually flattering, which made me feel good about my body (and, you know, my life in general). Plus, the elastic hem hit just a few inches above my ankle, somehow making me appear a few inches taller than I am. So heads up, if you’re much taller than 5’5”, these sweats might be too cropped for you.
These are on the pricier side, I’ll give you that. But I think they live up to their price tag, as they actually fit and feel soft but won’t leave your legs or sheets covered in fuzzies after a night’s sleep. Because you’d be hard-pressed to find another pair of sweats that fit a petite frame quite like these, you’ll want to make sure these stay in pristine condition for as long as possible. To do that, you should get in the habit of turning these inside-out before tossing them in the wash and letting them air dry. This might seem high maintenance, but it will prevent your Richer Poorer sweats from pilling around the thighs and will keep the fleece soft longer.
Reviewers echo my sentiments, too. “I’m 5’3” and sweat pants can often be oversized on me, but these fit really well and can’t stress enough how comfortable they are! Have two pairs already,” says one happy shopper.
“I made the decision to invest in these rather than buy a cheap pair from amazon and I’m so glad I did,” admits another reviewer.
As we head into the thick of summer, I only reach for my flattering sweats on nights when the AC is really blasting. But I’m still thinking about planning ahead for fall lounging, with a pair in the cool copper color.
