Every awards season, we expect to see trends emerge on the red carpet, from hot and fiery red shades to sleek and classic black ensembles, but there was one accessory micro trend that dominated the 2024 Oscars red carpet that we did not see coming: brooches.
The One Accessory We Didn’t Expect to See On the Oscars Carpet
The year of the brooch
If the red carpet is any indication, brooches are alive and well. The vintage and flashy bauble, popular in the Victorian Era, appears to be making a comeback with stars like Sandra Hüller, Jeffrey Wright, Ke Huy Quan and Celine Song donning the glitzy attachments in a variety of ways, from fastening it on their lapels and within dress seams. And we’re *so* into it.
It’s an especially unconventional way for men to add personality to their suits. A Quiet Place actor and director John Krasinski stepped out on the carpet with wife Emily Blunt in a breathtaking brooch with a purple gemstone surrounded by spectacular diamonds. In an all-white ensemble, the the accessory added pizazz. Similarly, actor Ben Kingsley, who stars in the nominated short film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, attached a crystal-adorned brocade to his double-breasted blazer, taking his classic black look up a notch.
Guess it's time to raid grandma's old jewelry box...
