I’ve been a fan of Old Navy activewear for more than a decade. I’ve certainly tested my fair share of high-end leggings and super-engineered sports bras, but to be honest, few (if any) have ever impressed me more than my Old Navy favorites. So when I heard the brand was coming out with a new fabrication, StudioSmooth, purported to be “the lightest, softest and most weightless from the brand to-date,” you know I had to test it for myself. And reader? It truly might be Old Navy’s greatest activewear ever. Here’s everything you need to know about this dreamy new line.
These Old Navy Leggings Could Pass for lululemon, They’re *That* Soft

My go-to for years now have been Old Navy’s PowerSoft leggings and bike shorts. I’ve worn them through two marathons (plus the months of training), countless Barry’s classes and tons of yoga and power stretching sessions. And they’ve held up beautifully through it all, with almost no signs of serious wear and tear for going on four years. All this is to say that the StudioSmooth collection had some big shoes to fill.
My first thought upon taking my new High-Waist 7/8 Leggings ($40) and Longline Sports Bra ($30) out of the package was, “oh my god, this feels amazing.” Seriously, the fabric is oh-so dreamy and feels even better when you put it on. It’s every bit as buttery smooth as you might think, and feels just as good if not better than lululemon Align leggings (yes, really) for a fraction of the cost.
It’s light as air, which is particularly good news for super-sweaty gals like me. Even at the end of a hard run, my legs didn’t feel weighed down and the material dried incredibly fast. I also appreciated that the fabric didn’t appear sheer even while doing squats or lunges, nor did it bunch up around my knees as I worked out.

Like most of Old Navy’s activewear, the StudioSmooth leggings fit true to size. (That said, if you’re between sizes, I do recommend going with the smaller of the two for the best fit.) The 7/8 length was great on my long legs, hitting just an inch or so above my ankle bone, but they also come in both Tall and Petite sizes for anyone concerned about the Regular length being too short or too long. And the high waist hit me in just the right spot—not so high that it came right up under my bust, nor so low as to show my belly button. More importantly, the waistband stayed put throughout a variety of workout types including running, stretching and weightlifting, with no folding or rolling over.
The Longline top does come with a built-in shelf bra (there is no padding, FYI), but I felt more comfortable layering a high-impact sports bra underneath for activities like running or HIIT. But for yoga or something more low impact, it can definitely be worn as is. I do wish the straps were adjustable, but the fit was really great overall, and again that fabric makes it a dream to wear.

As the name suggests, the StudioSmooth collection was designed with studio classes in mind, from Pilates to hot yoga to barre. But the rigorous testing of the fabric included a wide range of other workouts too, like walking, HIIT and lifting. But as an avid runner I already feel confident these leggings are built to stand the test of time.
These are absolutely pieces I plan to embrace for hot weather activities this summer, without fear of overheating or developing embarrassing sweat marks. And I’ve already got my eye on the Cropped Zip-Up and Bike Shorts to add to my collection.
