When it comes to tastemakers the world over, Meghan Markle is best in class. It goes hand in hand that her purse collection is the one I’d most like to shop—not only for its range of classic and trendy styles, but also for Markle’s commitment to sustainability and brands that align with her personal values. (Women-owned? Hell yeah.) But there are even more reasons to covet the handbags carried by Markle: Her collection of purses offers something for everyone, whether you need something fancy and polished for a work event (hello, like the Mulberry style she carried to Commonwealth Day) or something a bit more everyday (we will never not love the Everlane tote slung over her shoulder to debut her royal romance with Prince Harry back in 2017). Now, the hard part: Which one to choose? Peep her favorites below and rest assured you’re making an investment that is not just timeless, it’s royal-approved. (You’re welcome.)

Best Overall

1. Strathberry Midi Bag

It’s a brand that Markle has consistently reached for in a variety of silhouettes, but this particular Strathberry tote—carried on a royal visit to Ireland in 2018—is a stand-out for its structure, neutral hue and signature music bar (i.e. the metal closure across the top). Handmade in Spain from a soft calf leather and with a detachable strap, it’s a mid-size handbag that can be worn a multitude of ways. But if you’re like Markle, you’ll carry the spacious design—which comes in a range of colors, BTW—elegantly by hand. (FYI, Kate Middleton is a fan of the Edinburgh-based brand, too.)

2. Cuyana Saddle Bag

OK, this exact style is no longer in stock, but Meghan has reached for Cuyana over (and over) again throughout the years. It makes sense: The brand is beloved by our editors, too, for its timeless and modern silhouettes and for its commitment to sustainability. (Cuyana crafts 100 percent of their collection from recycled materials, FYI.) And, yes, the style Meghan carried at Sydney airport in 2018 may be no more, but the double flap saddle bag is quite similar. There’s also the Oversized Paloma handbag that she was spotted carrying in Dusseldorf, Germany for the 2023 Invictus Games, and the Classic Easy Tote she brought to Wimbledon in 2019. (Also, who can forget the Cuyana weekender she carried to New York City for her baby shower, also in 2019?) Better yet, the brand is female-founded—a win all around.

Best Everyday

3. Everlane Day Tote

It was the moment the (royal) world met Meghan. (Suits lovers and readers of The Tig were already mega-fans.) She joined Prince Harry in Toronto in 2017 for the Invictus Games sporting the “Husband” shirt by Misha Noonoo, which became the talk of the town. (Cue the royal rumors: She and Harry were not yet engaged.) But all eyes were also on her Everlane tote, which was as luxe-looking as it was lower-priced—at least in comparison to major designer bags. The exact same day tote has since been replaced by a near-identical replica, called the Luxe Italian Leather Tote, which also comes in a rich cognac hue. It’s perfectly sized to carry everything from your lunch to your laptop while maintaining its elegant (yet everyday) structure, too.

When Meghan stepped out at Variety’s Power of Women Awards in 2023, she made a splash. For one thing, it marked a major red carpet return, but also allowed her a chance to celebrate her inclusion on the 2022 list, an honor that occurred in tandem with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the period of mourning, which meant any fanfare surrounding it had to be postponed. For this appearance, it was Meghan’s effortless style—purse included—that turned heads. Her Proenza Schouler clutch (which doubles as a shoulder bag with a removeable strap) was as understated as it was a showstopper. In black leather, it felt fashionable, but also functional. (Inside, there is a zip compartment, six cards and a slip pocket—the perfect place to tuck a phone.)

Just a couple of months before she wed Harry at Windsor Castle, Meghan joined the royal family for Commonwealth Day in 2018 at Westminster Abbey. In her hand? The Mulberry Small Darley purse, a style that features a removeable chain shoulder strap and Mulberry’s iconic postman’s lock. In this case, Meghan opted to carry it like a clutch, but it’s the perfect bag to stow inside a larger tote, then take out for lunch at the office or carry to after-work drinks. (Kate Middleton is also a fan of the chic style.)
