When it comes to winter shoes, it’s usually easy to predict the styles that will dominate the streets (ahem, UGGs), but spring fashion is a different story. Whether it’s the anticipation of sunshine and warmer weather or the promise of fresh trends that bloom just as quickly as the flowers, spring fashion predictions bring a level of excitement that feels less predictable to me—and even more thrilling. While we’re already making room in our closets for bold prints, asymmetrical cuts and vibrant color pairings, social media is gearing up to revive a nostalgic blast-from-the-past look that has me eagerly checking my weather app for the moment I can sport it. TikTok and Instagram content creators are channeling one of fashion icon Kate Moss’s most iconic Glastonbury Festival looks just in time for spring, breaking out the classic Hunter Wellies and coupling them with the unexpected short shorts.

Not for the faint of heart, this dynamic duo marries classic Hunter rain boots, which I began to see rise in popularity this past fall, with risqué micro shorts—another popular piece that got some attention in winter with the hot pants trend. When I look at old photos of Kate Moss wearing the quirky combination at Glastonbury in 2005, I’m intrigued to see how it’s evolved since then. For one, I find it reassuring to see that people aren’t shying away from the leggy look, perhaps finding that the tall Wellies provide some balance against the short shorts. And from what it looks like, most people are choosing to swap out their winter hot pants for either denim or boxer shorts.

As Scandinavian content creator Bianca Gasparetti showcases on TikTok, styling your jean shorts with Hunter boots makes for a chic spring outfit that’s perfect for a neighborhood stroll or errand run. The look still channels the iconic supermodel, but leans more toward a relaxed, pastoral feel with an emphasis on comfort, compared to the festival style. Lately, I’ve noticed people styling the combo with a chunky knit to enhance the laid-back aesthetic, or, as TikTok creator Brooks Casillas does, with boxer shorts instead of denim shorts. Whatever your take, you can expect to see this nostalgic ensemble more this spring. Here are 12 pieces to get you started for your Kate Moss Spring.

I swear by Agolde denim, and have been eyeing the Parker long shorts for a while now because of their generous length and roomy fit. I also love how they’re made with 100 percent organic cotton, which doesn’t have any stretch, but I find loosens up the more you wear it.

Waterproof, puddle-proof, mud-proof…basically all the proof you need to add these durable boots to your capsule wardrobe. They also boast a traction-gripping sole that’ll be great on slippery surfaces, and that hunter green colorway is simply perfection.

I keep seeing people style their Hunter boots with boxer shorts like this Comme Si style, which comes in a slew of colors and patterns, including two gorgeous floral motifs. The soft, cotton fabric will have you feeling like you just rolled out of bed, but the outfit will read cottagecore chic.

Considering we’re taking inspo from Kate Moss, it’s only right to wear shorts from a classic brand, too, and what’s more iconic than Levi’s 501 cotton shorts? The raw hem is a great touch for festival goers or anyone that wants that lived-in look.

What says spring more than a bright yellow? These short rain boots are a great alternative to the tall shaft for anyone that has shorter legs.

Now these are my type of short shorts. They’re high-rise, pleated and nice and loose, giving you ample room and none of the suffocation you feel from traditional denim shorts. And don’t get me started on that rolled hem.

Do these navy shorts remind me of my P.E. uniform? Perhaps, but the sporty piece is all the more appealing when someone isn’t requiring me to do the mile run as soon as I throw them on. And that white piping detail at the hem will look darling against your Wellies, just pop on an oversize sweater for the finishing touch.

Remember when I mentioned popular spring prints? Well, gingham is going to be everywhere, and what better way to don the check pattern than with a tall boot that’s brimming with similar countryside vibes. Despite their shorter length, these shorts feature a stretchy elastic waistband and cute bubble hem that won’t pinch at the thighs. Plus, you can totally wear them as a swimsuit coverup too.

Cherry red is here to stay for spring, and these glossy Wellies are ready to prove it. Best of all, you can simply wipe away any dirt at the end of the day and they’ll look good as new. And just imagine how fabulous they’ll look with the gingham shorts above.

The combination of the soft silk on these shorts next to durable rubber of your boots will be unexpected, yes, but fashionable nonetheless.

Customers sing the praises of the Curve Love Dad shorts, which are designed with extra room at the hips and thighs for anyone blessed with curves. One Abercrombie & Fitch buyer says, “The Curve Love [shorts] eliminate the gap I get from any other shorts around my waist. This length is great, too, and they don’t ride up when I walk or sit.”

From dresses to shorts, SNDYS doesn’t miss. These striped boxer shorts will give you that I-stole-these-from-my-boyfriend’s-underwear-drawer vibe, without any of the funky smells or wrinkles. They’re made with a lightweight linen, so they’ll be a great transitional piece to wear once it starts to warm up, and they have an elastic waistband that’ll sit comfortably all day long.
