Anyone else impressed by Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, as of late? Her royal diary has been on powerbook, for obvious reasons, but we were particularly thrilled to see her (and her husband, Prince Edward) make a special trip to Rutland this week where they paid a visit to the brand-new Queen Elizabeth II statue in Oakham Library Gardens. With a sense of occasion, Sophie looked quite elegant—and she now has me coveting a collarless coat (like this one from Arket, $349).

A bit about this big-deal royal moment: Sophie and Edward, together, are the first senior members of the royal family to get an in-person glimpse of the recently unveiled memorial statue, which not only features the late queen, but also some of the most beloved members of her family—three of her corgis.
The reason I love Sophie’s coat is that it reads as quite effortless; perfect for traipsing through the gardens on a damp and rainy day, as she experienced, but also classy and chic—and I especially love the muted tone of it. So, how can you replicate the Duchess of Edinburgh’s easy style? Take a peek at a few similar versions below. (Alas, Sophie’s version—from Prada—is a repeat from a past season.)
1. Arket Collarless Doublé Coat
Arket
Lightweight and lovely, this version comes in a darker shade of gray.
Slightly less structured, but this style is the perfect match to Sophie’s choice of hue.
3. Ralph Lauren Collection Caelan Cashmere Wrap Coat
Ralph Lauren
A splurge? Absolutely. But, in baby blue, this feels regal—and royally-approved.
The transitional style my closet has been missing? I’d say so.
