Every now and again there comes a must-have handbag that’s, dare we say, actually pretty affordable (at least, in the grand scheme of designer wares), meaning more than just wealthy celebrities and influencers can join in on the craze. And right now, such a bag—ringing in under $500—has proven to be the number one most-wanted accessory across the globe. You’ve likely already seen it swung over the shoulders of celebs like Kylie Jenner, Megan Thee Stallion and Julia Fox, but just in case you’ve yet to get acquainted, let us introduce you to Diesel’s 1DR bag.

According to global shopping platform Lyst’s Q2 fashion report, the 1DR bag outranked products from usual heavy-hitting brands like Gucci, Balenciaga, Prada and Loewe with searches up almost 400 percent. And Diesel as a brand jumped from number 15 to number 6 in Lyst’s list of most popular labels.

And we can’t say we’re all that surprised. The 1DR plays perfectly into the Y2K revival, with a space-age logo and a ‘90s-esque shape. It also comes in two sizes, the mini and the shoulder bag, with the smaller starting at just $275 and the vast majority of the larger styles coming in under $500, including some very fun colorblocked versions for $395 a pop. (The most expensive styles are the mirrored leather shoulder bags for $550.)

Ever since tapping designer Glenn Martens as the brand’s new creative director in fall 2020, Diesel has been slowly but surely capitalizing on the current Y2K wave. Dua Lipa, Rihanna and Bella Hadid have all been spotted numerous times rocking Diesel clothing. And the 1DR bag was seen all over the place during Copenhagen Fashion Week, an excellent tell of what’s to come when Fashion Month kicks off in NYC come September.

As for how to style your shiny new It bag, most celebs have been pairing their 1DR bags with other early aughts fashion. Think matching metallic minidresses or colorful leather jackets with crop tops. But while the mirrored and colorblocked styles may feel deeply nostalgic for the 2000s, the simple black or white leather options are easier to pair with just about anything in your wardrobe. Wear them with suiting for the office, a simple white tee and jeans for the weekend, or even with your new beloved Plazacore tweed jacket for a truly trendy combo. Now all that’s left to decide is which color and size you want to snap up first.
