Spring hasn’t quite sprung yet, but between the trends popping up from Fashion Week and the tempting new arrivals from some of my favorite brands, my spring mood board has never been fuller (or more vibrant). And what’s populating my Pinterest these days, you might ask? A playful color combination I did not see coming: cherry red and butter yellow. The unexpected pairing is one of Pinterest’s top trending color palettes for 2025 and I for one am digging the Mickey D’s inspired style.

During my usual perusal of NYFW trend spotting, I noticed several attendees already living out their stylish ketchup and mustard fantasies—one fashionista teamed a buttery yellow cardigan and skirt ensemble with a cherry red clutch; another donned a yellow denim jacket with a bright red skirt. And just like the frame bag microtrend we spotted on the city’s streets, this is another Fashion Week style that is accessible (and chic) enough to pull off at home.

Curious about how to try out this charming color combo next season? Here are 10 of the best cherry red and butter yellow items to shop now, plus a few ways to wear this trend without giving (as Beauty Editor Chelsea Candelario puts it) Ronald McDonald a run for his money.

Can Cherry Red and Butter Yellow Really Be Worn Together?

Well, yes! If styled properly, cherry red and butter yellow can be a really seamless pairing. They are both primary colors, after all. PureWow's Fashion Editor Abby Hepworth also gave this color duo her stamp of approval and the styling 4-1-1 on how to rock it effortlessly. She says, "I love an unexpected color combination. It's such a fun way to shake up your existing wardrobe, pairing things together you may not have thought to otherwise. My advice is to go big with one color, and small with the other. So if you wear a butter yellow dress, add in some cherry red flats or a mini bag or even just a swipe of bright lipstick. On the flip side, you can try wearing a red sweater with a butter yellow hair bow or a dainty crossbody bag."

I also find that incorporating a touch of blue is an easy way to ease into this bold color combo, and Hepworth agrees. "Another great way to mix two unexpected colors is by breaking them up with a third shade. Though to be safe, I'd stick with the Three Color Rule and not add any other shades to the mix. Break up your red blouse and yellow shoes with some blue-wash jeans or a lilac midi skirt. The addition of a third color works to dampen the impact of the other two to even out your look on the whole," she states.

If you need more examples, a butter-yellow blouse paired with classic denim jeans creates a balanced base, while cherry-red accents—like ballet flats or a statement handbag—add just the right pop of color for a subtle yet stylish take on the trend. You can also try the monochromatic ensemble approach—pick one of the hues as your outfit's base color, then accessorize with the opposing shade to act as an accent color. It all works, trust me.
