If we’re talking high performance cold-weather gear, Canada Goose is kinda, sorta in a league of its own. The Toronto-based brand, founded in 1957, is renowned for its outerwear that’s built to withstand cold, wet and windy weather. And while Canada Goose styles don’t come cheap (outerwear prices range from $525 to $1,995), the brand’s legions of fans are so effusive about the quality, fit and style that they’re more than worth the investment. One such fan is Mary Rogers, PureWow’s director of audience development, who has nothing but incredible things to say about her Canada Goose Byward Parka. Read on for everything you need to know about this popular coat that frequently sells out.

Rogers admits that she had always thought Canada Goose jackets were over-hyped. She tells me, “Living in NYC for 15-plus years, they seemed more a status symbol than anything else.” But then, during the pandemic, Rogers and her husband left their Manhattan apartment for a ski house in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where temperatures regularly hit below freezing—with wind chills adding onto the cold climate. “You learn pretty quickly up here that it’s all about the gear to stay comfortable while outside, even if it’s just for a walk with the dog,” she admits. “Last Christmas, my in-laws gifted both my husband and I Canada Goose jackets, and it’s been one of the best pieces I’ve added to my mountain life closet.”
Per the brand, “The Byward Parka is crafted using ultra-soft EnduraLuxe fabric, with CORDURA® fabric reinforcement, making it both incredibly light and durable.” It features four front pockets that are double-stacked and fleece-lined, a 360° reflective stripe on the collar that adds visibility in low-light conditions and a removable hood to transition into milder weather. It's lined with 750-fill-power down fill and is designed for daily warmth in Arctic conditions and temperature rated to -13°F/-25°C.
“The Byward has been the perfect parka for my morning walks with my dog or venturing out to the ski lodge,” Rogers raves. “It’s warm and cozy and makes any outdoor venture way more comfortable. Do I feel like a giant marshmallow in it? Just a bit, but I’d rather that than feeling the bitter cold. And, if I get too warm I love that it has built-in straps so I can hang the parka off my shoulders and cool down a bit without needing to lug it around. The white does start to show some signs of wear but it’s easy to clean or send out to be cleaned between seasons.”

According to the brand, the Byward Parka runs large, but Rogers, who’s eight months pregnant, says she’s grateful that it’s roomy enough that she’s been able to wear it throughout her pregnancy. Despite the more oversize fit, though, some reviewers say it’s a great, slightly less bulky alternative to the popular Mystique Parka ($1,550). One Bloomingdale’s shopper shares, “I wanted a coat that was less bulky and not as long as my Mystique coat from Canada Goose. Love the style. Runs a little large, so I sized down one size in comparison to buying a small in the Mystique coat. This coat is great for spring, because it doesn’t look like you’re wearing a huge winter coat. I’m always cold, but always felt odd wearing my Mystique coat in the spring time. I only wish they carried it in more colors!”
Starting at $1,350, the Canada Goose Byward Parka is a splurge, for sure, but if your experience is anything like Rogers’s, it’s a warm, stylish and long-lasting investment that you’ll wear on repeat for years to come.
