Leather boots and denim are a match made in heaven and a pair of knee-highs will always look good with tights, but fashion-forward Angelenos are giving this badass shoe a unique pairing by teaming black leather with delicate sundresses. I've noted the look on a walkable stretch of Santa Monica, while shopping in Beverly Hills and when I went to an opening at a downtown gallery. Style-savvy Los Angeles women are clomping around in tall boots with sundresses, two diametrically opposed style choices that somehow look exactly right together.
"I do love the boots with sundresses look," says Abby Hepworth, PureWow's fashion editor. (She lives in Brooklyn, so I imagine she was burrowed into some Canada Goose situation while we Slacked.) "I always see gals wearing this on Instagram and want to do it myself but New York weather just won't cooperate." Like Abby told me, we Angelenos are lucky to be able to rock the style thanks to our mild temperatures, as well as our, ahem, overall casual chic vibe (one of our many reasons to love Los Angeles).
What's new about this particular iteration of the look (because boots and dresses have long been popular out here—this is the West after all) is that the boots are big, black and not at all soft. Past boot trends have included the soft suede knee-highs glutting music festivals circa the 2010s, as well as the coming of the short boots in the aughts. This year, the boots are motorcycle or equestrian. They may be beat up or polished, and are worn with a lightweight dress like the ethereal white cotton midi that Sienna Miller recently sported, or the button-front shirt dresses I'm seeing worn belt-free and casual. The effect is edgy but feminine.
I'll be rocking my knee-high black boots with an eyelet dress I love, happy to be able to shop my closet for a trending look.
