It’s no secret that PureWow editors, myself included, are big fans of lululemon. From the top-of-the-line designs and materials to the constant release of new arrivals, the brand continually piques my interest. I know you’ve heard of the Align leggingsmen’s pants and Energy bras, but there’s one category you may be overlooking—and definitely shouldn’t: lululemon jackets.

The athleisure brand carries a wide range of jacket styles, for just as wide a range of activities. For Pilates and running there’s the best-selling Define Luon jacket ($118) and the lightweight Classic-Fit Ventilated Running Jacket ($148). And for more casual days and inclement weather there’s the chic cropped Always Effortless Jacket ($148) or the waterproof Rain Rebel Jacket ($228). There are even winter puffers to keep you cozy and warm on even the most frigid afternoons. Read on for my top picks to add to your wardrobe ASAP.

How I Chose the Best lululemon Jackets

Having tried some of these jackets, PureWow editors have concluded that it’s important to look for how breathable and flexible the material is, how durable the jacket is over time and how it fits. With that as my top criteria, I vetted editors’ reviews of the jackets they’ve tested, as well as customer reviews of the jackets we were unable to review firsthand. Preference was given to the top-rated styles across the board.

1. lululemon Define Luon Jacket

What I Like

  • sculpting shape
  • removable hood

What I Don’t Like

  • sleeves are quite long

lululemon

The classic lululemon Define jacket is a fan favorite for many reasons. Not only is it great for giving your upper body shape and defining your curves beautifully, it’s super comfortable to wear for workouts. I wear this jacket constantly, and it was even comfortable stretching over my baby belly while I was pregnant. The material is thick and sturdy without being constricting and it really gives shape to my waist and hips. The Luon fabric is sweat-wicking, breathable and has a four-way stretch, so you won’t feel constricted when you’re at Pilates or out for a run.

  • Size Range: US 0 to 20
  • Materials: 87 percent Nylon, 13 percent Lycra elastane
  • Designed For: casual wear and light exercise

  • reflective details
  • water-repellant

What I Don’t Like

lululemon

Whether you run hot or you’re not into bulky jackets, this breathable style has your name written all over it. For starters, it has a slim fit that skims your body so you look snatched even in the dead of winter. Yes, that’s right, this lightweight jacket can handle the cold. Thanks to the Glyde fabric (a genius blend of polyester and nylon) and PrimaLoft insulation, runners can stay warm all while braving rain and wind. And if you wear it out at night, the reflective details will make sure you’re seen at all times. What more can you ask for? Zippered exterior pockets (with a hidden phone sleeve!) and removable hood, perhaps? It’s got all of that already, so just add it to cart and prepare to never look back.

FAST FACTS

  • Size Range: US 0 to 14
  • Materials: 100 percent Nylon body, 82 percent Nylon, 18 percent Lycra elastane side panels, 100 percent polyester filling
  • Designed For: running and outdoor activity

3. lululemon Classic-Fit Ventilated Running Jacket

What I Like

  • roomy fit
  • removable hood
  • water repellant

What I Don’t Like

  • limited size range
  • reportedly runs large

lululemon

Fashion Editor Abby Hepworth prefers the looser fit of this classic running jacket over the slim Define silhouette and says it’s fabulous for rainy-day runs, chilly fall runs and even winter runs (provided you layer it over a warmer base layer). “The material is super lightweight so I basically forget it’s even there, and I love the vents at the back, which help keep me cool and dry even in the rain,” she notes. “It can also pack up into it’s own pocket for easy storage in a backpack or suitcase. The hood is also removable, and there’s a drawcord in the waist if you want extra protection from wind.” As for sizing, she and most reviewers say it fits true to size, but some petite shoppers preferred to go down one size from their usual for a more comfortable fit.

  • Size Range: US 0 to 14
  • Materials: 91 percent Nylon, 9 percent elastane
  • Designed For: running

Best Cropped Jacket

4. lululemon Define Cropped Jacket

What I Like

What I Don’t Like

  • sleeves are quite long
  • those with big boobs may need to size up

lululemon

If you prefer your workout jackets to have a cropped fit, this one’s for you. It’s made to hit right above your hips, so your high-waist leggings will look great with this zip-up. It’s made of the iconic Nulu fabric (the same as the beloved Align leggings) so you can expect the buttery soft material to keep you comfortable and supported throughout your workout. Not only is this jacket a fan favorite because of the material, it’s also earned praise for how flattering and comfortable it is to wear outside of a sweaty gym sesh. Per one 5-star reviewer, “[I] love this jacket! The crop is the perfect length and the jacket itself is light and easy to throw on with any athletic outfit.”

FAST FACTS

  • Size Range: US 0 to 14
  • Materials: 81 percent Nylon, 19 percent Lycra elastane
  • Designed For: casual wear and light exercise

Best Relaxed Jacket

5. lululemon Define Relaxed-Fit Jacket

What I Like

  • adjustable waist
  • roomy fit
  • zippered pockets

What I Don’t Like

  • reportedly runs large
  • few color options

lululemon

For the gal who prefers a looser silhouette, this new Define iteration is a fabulous pick. It’s made from the same material as the fitted version of the Define style, making it just as functional for working out and movement, but even comfier thanks to the relaxed fit. The waist can be cinched in with two shock cords on the hem, and the sleeve cuffs have thumb holes to keep you cozy on those truly chilly days. There’s also a zipper cage at the top of the neck so the metal doesn’t poke into your skin if you have it zipped up all the way. Hepworth is a big fan of this lightweight style for hiking. “The looser fit is way more comfortable for me, and I love how versatile the design elements make this jacket,” she explains. “The adjustable hem and high neck are great for keeping out wind, and there are vents in the back for improved breathability.”

FAST FACTS

  • Size Range: US 0 to 14
  • Materials: 87 percent Nylon, 13 percent Lycra elastane
  • Designed For: casual wear and light exercise

Best Puffer Coat

6. lululemon Wunder Puff Jacket

What I Like

  • zipper and button front closures
  • removable hood

What I Don’t Like

  • few color options
  • limited size range

lululemon

Reviewers rave about this cropped, hip-length puffer as a flattering alternative to giant oversize puffs. The fill is made of a mix of grey goose down and grey goose feathers, making it super lightweight and extra warm. The outer shell is also water repellant to keep you cozy even while it’s precipitating. Per one reviewer living in Wisconsin, “This coat is so comfortable and warm! It’s so dang cute, and I love wearing it! I would say if you like wearing layers under it you should probably size up one.”

FAST FACTS

  • Size Range: US 0 to 14
  • Materials: 100 percent recycled polyester body, 80 percent grey goose down, 20 percent grey goose feathers filling
  • Designed For: casual wear

Best Travel Jacket

7. lululemon Always Effortless Jacket

What I Like

  • stowable hood
  • adjustable hem
  • roomy fit

What I Don’t Like

  • material wrinkles easily

lululemon

Not only is this jacket functional, it’s also super cute. Several reviewers note that it’s a great fall jacket since it’s lightweight but still provides water resistance. The waist is also adjustable with shock cords on the hem. The hood can be rolled up and stowed in the collar when you don’t need it, and there are vents at the back for improved breathability. Reviewers say this casual jacket is great in both windy and rainy conditions, but also rave about how chic it looks when styled with jeans. One reviewer writes, “I’ve had this jacket for a few months now, so it’s been through the wash several times, and it’s really held up. It’s been my go to layer for foggy mornings and windy days—it really does a great job at cutting wind without being bulky. The hidden hood is handy. And the pockets! Having the two on the inside of the jacket is a game changer. And the ones on the front bottom zipper shut. Makes for a really wonderful travel jacket or whenever you just want to head out sans purse/bag.”

FAST FACTS

  • Size Range: US 0 to 14
  • Materials: 100 percent Nylon
  • Designed For: casual wear

Best Raincoat

8. lululemon Rain Rebel Jacket

What I Like

  • long silhouette
  • reflective cuffs
  • adjustable waist

What I Don’t Like

  • hood is not adjustable

lululemon

For truly rainy days (I’m talking downpours, not drizzles), it’s time to break out this waterproof stunner. The longer silhouette helps direct streaks of water away from your legs in addition to looking supremely chic. The cuffs are adorned with reflective details to keep you safe in the dark, and there are multiple pocket options so you can stow items like your keys in an easily reachable place and your phone deep within your jacket, fully protected from the weather. Reviewers say the fit is loose but not so oversized that you need to size down. There’s also a built-in draw cord at the waist so you can cinch it in for more of an hourglass shape if that’s more your style.
