There is no doubt that this summer has been scorching hot. If you’re anything like me, then you’ve been counting down the days to the start of fall for cooler weather. And not just for Pumpkin Spice Lattes or other fall foods; if you’re somebody who regularly works from the office, you may be thinking about transitioning your look to suit the season.

While there is certainly nothing wrong with wearing a blazer, tailored dress pants and pumps every day, autumn’s not-too-hot, not-too-cold temps give you the most fashion versatility, so why not take advantage of it? To give you a little #fashioninspo, I’ve put together a list of some chic outfit combinations that are great for the office. From laidback fits for Casual Friday to sophisticated dresses for Monday morning meetings, scroll down to see some of my favorites below.

1. The Midi Skirt and Blouse

Structured midi skirts and elegant blouses go together like peanut butter and jelly. While the outfit alone steals the show, you can take it a step further by accessorizing with a tote/crossbody bag and a pair of pumps.

2. Denim on Denim

Depending on your office’s dress code, Fridays maybe the only day where you can jeans. If so, pairing your jeans with a denim jacket is an excellent choice for a monochromatic look (and it happens to be a major fall 2024 trend).

3. The Vest Suit

Vest suits are an understated way to steal the show, as it gives power suit vibes without actually having to wear, well, a power suit. Accessories—particularly hoop earrings and pearl necklaces—that draw the eye up are really the key here for making your outfit pop.

4. The Skirt and Suit Combo

You don’t automatically have to go with a satin blazer and matching pencil skirt here. You can play around a bit and wear something like a denim skirt with a leather blazer for an edgy, biker-but-make-it-business-y look. You can also experiment a bit with your footwear choices. (PSA: This might be a good time to try those cowboy boots you seemingly picked up for no reason over the summer.)

5. The Dress and Long Coat

Contrary to popular belief, your coat *can* actually be a part of your outfit as opposed to something you only wear outside. A long coat can really up the chic meter on an already stylish dress (especially if the colors are contrasting in a good way, like green with brown).

6. The All-Black Outfit

This is where you get free reign to experiment with anything you want—as long as the color is black. You can do a black blazer with black trouser, a black cardigan with a black skirt or even a black blazer overtop a black minidress. Black pumps, boots and ballet flats will also serve you well here. You can’t go wrong with monochrome.

7. The Blazer Dress and Sneakers

Blazer dresses and sneakers are a great option for individuals like myself, who prefer a sportier style. It meets the formality of the office (provided you’re not working in a law office or other suits-and-dress-shoes-only workplace), while still being casual enough for you to be comfortable.

8. The Wrap Dress

The good ole wrap dress will never fail you. Accessorize it with a work bag and office-appropriate heels (like these Cole Haan Mylan Pumps) and you’ll be good to go.

9. The Trench Coat and Jeans

There is just something about the trench coat and jeans combo that gives me “Carrie Bradshaw walking around NYC shopping” vibes. It’s super trendy and definitely suitable for a business casual office. Boots are another essential staple here, and this season, the oversized style is particularly popular with jeans.

10. The Blazer and Wide-Leg Trousers

Slightly oversized clothing is definitely having a moment right now, which means this is the perfect time to grab some wide-leg trousers. Pair it with a blazer for an ultra-breezy look, and go for a somewhat fitted tee or tank underneath, just to balance things out.

11. The Matching Set

Matching sets work great on days where you aren’t really in the mood to think too hard about your outfit. Not only do they offer automatically polished looks, but they work well with a number of shoe choices (like pumps, ballet flats or sneakers).

12. The Asymmetrical Skirt and Top

It is always a yes to asymmetrical skirts, which work fabulously with fitted sweaters or any kind of dressy top. Choose a top that’s a different shade of the same color for a quiet luxury, tonal look. Then, throw on your favorite heels and you’ll be all set.

13. The Turtleneck and Skirt

Channel your inner Blair Waldorf with a turtleneck and sweater combination. You can even take it a notch further by adding a pair of tights and leather boots for extra measure.

14. The Cropped Jacket and Jeans

A cropped jacket that accentuates your shoulders and torso is an excellent office staple. Team it up with pair of jeans for days where you want a casual look.

15. The Bermuda Short and Long Sleeve Shirt

Bermuda shorts have been on the rise, which means you’ll be right in line with the current trends by wearing one. Yes, even at the office. Pair them with a long sleeve shirt for fall and a pair of ballet flats for a fresh take on Casual Friday.

16. Suit and Sneakers

I’ve already covered how you can wear a blazer dress with sneakers, but the next level, of course, is wearing an actual suit with a pair of sneakers. Suits and sneakers have been a reoccurring theme over 2024, and I imagine that will continue in the fall. Platform boot have been a particularly popular pairing right now.

17. The Trouser and Sweater

Tailored trousers and sweaters offer a structured look that is still very comfortable, so you won’t regret your outfit 30 minutes into the workday. Opt for a slightly hemmed pair, so you can show off your sneakers or a pair of chunky loafers and sneakers.

18. The Vest and Shorts

Depending on your office environment, a vest and shorts could be a fun (and less expected) pairing. Stick to a looser (yet still tailored) fit for the top and bottom to keep things feeling professional, and you can add a long sleeve shirt underneath the vest as the weather gets cooler.

19. The Eclectic Grandpa Outfit

The key word here is “oversized.” Whether it’s an oversized blazer or jacket, baggy jeans or a slightly oversized dress shirt, you’ll nail the eclectic grandpa trend as long as what you’re wearing is on the bigger side. Sleek hair and statement earrings keep the look feeling polished, not frumpy.

20. The Knit Dress

Knit dresses are office-friendly and a timeless fall staple. Every working lady needs at least one in her closet, along with a sleek trench coat you can wear over top. Now the only thing you’ll need to complete your outfit is a pair of pumps or ankle boots.
