If underwire and thick padding are not your cup of tea, bralettes are the perfect alternative to regular bras. I love wearing them under T-shirts, oversized tank tops or with an open flannel. So much so that I'm really leaning in and purchasing a few more wire-free options to tide me over between laundry loads.

When it comes to a bralettes, you're probably looking for one of two things, a cute option to show off under a shirt or to wear by itself, or a comfy option with a bit of support to wear in place of a regular bra. Whether you prefer lace or spandex, or a deep-cut or straight-across neckline, there are truly hundreds of combinations to look at for your best fit. If you're someone who doesn't like the feel of lace but wants a sexier bra, opt for a mesh one with cute detailing. If you want more support, stick to a silhouette with thicker straps and padding.

True & Co

Jockey

If you’ve been on the hunt for a no-fuss bra you can wear under pajamas or out and about, this one answers the call. Shoppers love the discreet straps and the medium support without being too restrictive. One buyer writes, "This is my go-to bra, especially after having a kid. It is very comfortable, yet still flattering I believe. bought the first one two years ago and wear it constantly so I bought two more. I have black and white. I bought a medium and I normally wear around a 32B. It fits me perfectly."

Best Seamless

3. Everlane The Invisible Bra

What We Like

  • has a flattering v-neck
  • comes in multiple colors
  • no gaping or folding

What We Don't Like

  • may not fit larger cup sizes as well

Everlane

This bra is exactly what it sounds like: It’s generously cut like a tank top (peep those wide straps that will never dig into your shoulders) but has the same support as a bralette. “It’s comfortable enough to wear all day, but supportive enough that I don’t feel self-conscious on a last-minute Zoom call (read: The one I totally forgot about),” says former PureWow editor of branded content Roberta Fiorito.

Best Padded

4. Boody Padded Shaper Bra

What We Like

  • good quality
  • can remove padding
  • affordable

What We Don't Like

  • certain sizes sellout fast

Boody

This lightly padded bralette fits like a sports bra and gives the support of one, too. The scooped neckline makes it look much cuter than expected though.

Best Triangle Bralette

5. Skims Triangle Bralette

What We Like

  • lots of neutral colors
  • versatile size range
  • flexible

What We Don't Like

  • on the pricier side

Skims

If you’re looking for a sexy, lace bralette, this one is a gorgeous option. It's very dainty and feminine to wear under sheer shirt or if you just feel like upgrading your daily lingerie. The cups are super soft and supportive, and you can adjust the straps as tightly or loosely as possible for the best fit.

Best for Large Chests

6. Commando Butter Comfy Bralette

What We Like

  • has wide straps
  • pullover style
  • wide bottom band

What We Don't Like

  • bottom section curls up according to buyers

Saks Fifth Avenue

Former fashion director Dena Silver says this style from Commando is one of her favorites to wear while lounging around the house because it’s lightweight, but supportive enough to keep her from experiencing nip slips and other wardrobe malfunctions. Multiple reviewers note that it’s so comfortable, they often forget they’re even wearing it. “I am a 36DDD and I find it so difficult to find a bralette that keeps the girls supported. This bra is it!” adds another customer.

Best for Wearing by Itself

7. Free People One Athena Bralette

What We Like

  • comfortable
  • ample stretch
  • easy to customize

What We Don't Like

  • runs small

Free People

I'll definitely be wearing this bra by itself with some pleated pants this summer. The straps are super thin, but they're adjustable for easy customization. The smocked back is also very comfortable, with ample stretch.

Best Sheer Option

8. Hanky Panky Signature Lace Retro Bralette

What We Like

  • retro look
  • unlined
  • comes in multiple colors

What We Don't Like

  • sold out in certain sizes

Hanky Panky

In the market for a bralette that’s more akin to lacy lingerie? Go for this one from Hanky Panky. The retro-inspired silhouette is unlined and made from sheer lace—yet still offers support. “It makes me feel sexy and comfortable,” attests one reviewer.

Best Size Range

9. Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette

What We Like

  • buttery soft
  • multiple colors
  • affordable

What We Don't Like

  • runs small according to some buyers

Skims

Skims’ bralette is buttery smooth and breathable. It comes in 11 colors and I definitely recommend getting more than one because you’re going to love how buttery soft it feels against your skin while wearing.

Best Plus Size

10. Torrid Black Lace Bralette

What We Like

  • works great with multiple outfit
  • fits true-to-size
  • washes well
  • doesn't itch

What We Don't Like

  • sells out fast

Torrid

“I have a very large chest (42DDD) and this bralette still manages to do a great job of keeping the girls securely in place, all while being super cute,” says one reviewer. “I never had the confidence to put [a bralette] on [and they] never fit me correctly. This one is amazing!” says another. This style comes in Torrid’s 00-6 sizing, meaning it fits sizes M to 5X.

Best Maternity

11. Hatch The Everyday Nursing Bra

What We Like

  • has a j-hook in the back
  • one-handed clasp
  • multiple colors

What We Don't Like

  • on the pricier side

Hatch

Hatch is known for its high-quality maternity and postpartum clothes, and this nursing bra is one of the brand’s best sellers for a reason. Made from 90 percent cotton, it’s super soft to keep you comfortable and features an easy one-handed clasp to make feeding time a little easier. The adjustable straps and j-hook in the back allow you to modify the fit as your bust changes post-baby.

Best Long Bralette

12. Free People Amina Bralette

What We Like

  • can wear as a crop top
  • stretchy

What We Don't Like

  • no large or extra large sizes

Free People

This longline bra can easily double as a crop top (which is especialy great during the warmer months). Plus, it’s unlined and super stretchy for optimal comfort. My only gripe is that it isn't available in large or extra large sizes, which is a bummer.

13. Wacoal Level Up Lace Wire Free Bra

What We Like

  • wire-free
  • goes up to a G-cup
  • more than one color

What We Don't Like

  • on the pricier side

Wacoal

Just because you’re above a DD doesn’t mean you can’t revel in the underwire-free lifestyle. While Wacoal technically calls this a bra, it’s wire-free and supersoft, so we’d say it counts as a bralette. And it goes all the way up to a G cup, making it an ideal option for larger chests.

Best for Smaller Cups

14. Richer Poorer Women's Model Rib Classic

What We Like

  • minimal coverage
  • unpadded and unstructured
  • multiple colors
  • shrink-resistant

What We Don't Like

  • not suitable for larger busts

Richer Poorer

This unpadded, soft cotton blend bralette is best for people with A to B cups, since it provides pretty minimal coverage. One reviewer who’s a 36C notes that when she tried to wear it, her boobs kept falling out of the cups. But wearers with smaller busts had nothing but good things to say, calling it comfortable, flattering and great for lounging around the house in.

Most Affordable Bralette

15. Maidenform Lightly Lined Convertible Lace Bralette

What We Like

  • lightly-lined
  • has convertible, adjustable straps
  • can be worn in different ways

What We Don't Like

  • limited sizing

Maidenform

This bralette is appreciated for its cloud-like softness and he fact that it doesn’t show any lines under clothing. Or as one reviewer puts it, "This is the best and most comfortable I have ever worn. My breasts are two different cup sizes, and it's impossible to tell! The inside lining reminds me of a bathing suit cup insert but softer and thinner. It has 4 hooks in the back and wide sides to eliminate any spillage. This is a different style for me. I only tried it on because I knew I needed something different. So glad I did. I’m donating my other bras."

Aside from its comfort, this bra has convertible, adjustable straps that can be worn in either traditional, halter or criss-cross styles.
