Another year, another few hundred dollars spent on skirts and jeans and fur-soled mules. As we prepare our closets for 2016, we’re taking a look back at the fashion trends that have defined the last 12 months: the good, the bad and the naked.
The Best and Worst Fashion Trends of 2015
Miniskirts, cropped flares and Yeezy
Best: A-line Miniskirts
Worn atop bare legs or tights, they’re seasonless and leg-lengthening: a winning combo.
Worst: Floor-sweeping Carwash Skirts
Like most things, the carwash skirt is fine (nay, chic) when done in moderation. Add a few inches and an aggressive print, though, and you’ve lost us.
Best: Ponchos
Cozy and statement-making, we pray that these guys stay around for years to come. (Not least because we’re thisclose to justifying the investment of a midnight suede fringe situation.)
Worst: Too-long Sleeves
Stella McCartney can normally do no wrong, but we’re gonna prioritize, um, dexterity.
Best: Sophisticated Plaid
Finally, the beloved print goes beyond looking like a lumberjack.
Worst: "naked" Dresses
Nope. No thanks. (Unless, we’re Freaky Friday-ing with Beyoncé for the night. Then we suppose we’d give it a go.)
Best: Lace-up Flats
These guys are ballet-inspired, subtly sexy and look just as good paired with skinnies and a sweater as they do with an aforementioned A-line mini.
Worst: Furry Slides
Comfortable? Probably. Worth looking like you slid stuffed animals into your mules? Probably not.
Best: Athleisure-inspired Outfits
Not only are athleisure outfits comfortable, they're so cool too. Also a great way to save room in your gym bag.
Worst: Yeezy Season 2
Serious question: How does one wear a nude bike-shorts bodysuit? Kanye? Saint?
Best: One-shoulder Tops And Dresses
One of the comebacks we’re most excited about, the one-shoulder silhouette is ripe for showing off a little skin--like a lady.
Worst: Off-the-shoulder Tops That Make It Impossible To Move Your Arms
Trending: T-rex arms? Nah. We’ll stick with the elastic off-the-shoulder ones that let you (at the very least) wave to a friend.
Best: Culottes
We’ve said it time and time again: Culottes might be the perfect pants. They can be dressed up or dressed down, and the billowy breeze isn’t half bad.
Worst (or Best?!): Cropped Flares
And now for the most polarizing of the bunch. We love 'em. (Yes, Chloé.) Others hate 'em. (How the hell do I wear them?) Discuss.
