It’s no secret that I am obsessed with Barbour jackets. The practical British brand is my go-to whenever the weather starts to looks rough. That said, I’ll admit that most Barbour coats aren’t the most chic outerwear picks. The classic barn jacket is indeed trending right now, and while I proudly wear my Beaufort regardless of the trends, it’s not nearly as posh as, say, a faux-fur coat or even a classic trench. Enter the Barbour x Ganni collaboration of my dreams: a cropped, leopard print anorak that’s equal parts practical and stylish. Swoon!

The sustainable Danish brand has partnered with Barbour on three mini collections, the latest of which dropped in November 2024 and included my beloved Leopard Print Waxed Anorak. It was the standout piece of the collaboration, not in the least because Ganni has become known as setting the gold standard for covetable leopard print items—the Ganni Leopard Tie Blouse ($235) has been inescapable for multiple summers in a row, as have the lookalikes it inspired. But the appeal comes from more than just the animal-inspired spots.
The boxy, cropped silhouette is roomy, yet not too oversized, and layers beautifully over both thinner blouses and thicker knits. And combined with the exaggerated corduroy collar, it has a ‘60s vibe that evokes images of Jackie Kennedy or Tippi Hedren. As for practicality, the Barbou x Ganni collaboration refuses to sacrifice function for fashion.
The Waxed Anorak is fully waterproof, including that standout collar. Speaking of which, many Barbour coats come with the ability to fold the collar up, with snaps to hold it in place, for better protection from wind or aggressive rain. And while it appears you can technically do this with the Barbour x Ganni cropped style, the oversize corduroy collar doesn’t lay nearly as neatly as other traditional styles. It’s a feature you could technically use, but I doubt you’d really want to.
The front has a double set of pockets, one top-entry pocket with a secure flap for stowing essentials safely out of the rain and a second side-entry slit pocket to easily rest your hands. The front also closes with both a hidden zipper and series of hidden snaps to really ensure not a drop of precipitation sneaks in. Barbour tends to run a bit large, so depending on how you plan to wear it (i.e. over thick sweaters or breezy dresses) I’d consider going down one from your usual size.

Now, you may be thinking, “Abby, this trendy, leopard print jacket costs $745—in what world is this a sensible purchase?” And I’ll agree, the price is higher than I’d like, however there are three key factors that make me feel confident this Barbour x Ganni beauty is worth the splurge. First is the inclusion of all the technical specs Barbour is so well-known for—weather-proofing, thoughtfully designed pockets, a breathable lining, etc. This is a jacket that can withstand the elements with ease. Second is the fact that Barbour has a repair program should you find your cropped cutie in need of some touchups, like being re-waxed or reattaching a loose snap. And lastly, although leopard print is having a moment as a top trend for 2025, it’s a print that never actually goes out of style. Much like trench coats, straight-leg jeans or a sleek leather tote bag, leopard spots won’t look dated or out of place even after they’re replaced by a different trending print.
I’ve working to be better at really assessing whether or not the various items that tug at my heart strings are actually worth spending my hard-earned money on. So while the Barbour x Ganni Leopard Print Waxed Anorak does not come cheap, I do feel confident this is a piece I will reach for again and again (and again and again) over the years to come, just as often as I reach for my Barbour Beaufort.
