Y2k’s current influence on style knows no bounds. From kitschy charm jewelry to scratchy velour tracksuits, it’s clear the early aughts are back and better than ever—depending on who you ask. As an avid Pinterest scroller, there’s one throwback style choice in particular that’s been clogging my feed, and I’m not entirely sure how to feel about it. There are certain moments from the early 2000s that I have purposely tucked into the back of my mind, including the era of baggy clothing. But what’s old is new again because baggy jean shorts—jorts, if you will—are trending with Gen-Z fashion enthusiasts, who have managed to take something that was once seen as comically cringeworthy and turned it into a piece that’s unironically chic and edgy. Even celebrities like Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski have tried their hand at this sartorial choice.

As a Gen-Zer myself, this trend was not on my bingo card of fashion revivals, but surprisingly, the more I think about it, I’m not mad at it. With spring weather on the cusp of fully emerging, the oversize, wide-leg style might just be a godsend in warmer temps. A good pair of baggy jorts will fall just above or completely over the knee, leaving your calves bare to the world. If you’re anything like me and curious about how to incorporate this intriguing piece into your wardrobe this season, below are six ways to style baggy jorts that you can easily recreate.

This Carrie Bradshaw-Approved Y2K Trend Was All Over NYFW, but We’re Not Sure We’re on Board

1. Oversize Blazer + Tank + Heeled Mules

I don’t make the rules: Everyone needs a foolproof oversize blazer at their disposal. It spruces up any ensemble that may read as boring at first, like pictured above. Elevate a simple tank and jorts with a nude-colored blazer, heels and a statement floral neckpiece.

2. Leather Jacket + Sporty Graphic Tee + Knee-High Boots

Including sporty elements is probably one of the best ways to try out this trend. When I think of jorts, I picture casual skater style (tank, low-rise sneaks, etc.), but in this case, it’s motocross mayhem. It’s time to dust off the leather jacket in the back of your closet and put your best knee-high boots to work. Bonus points if you have a sporty tee or jersey.

3. Tube Top + Low-Top Sneakers

Again, sporty and casual will be your best friends when wearing baggy jorts. Here’s Emrata going for a casual stroll in jorts and looking as effortless and stylish as possible, opting for a minimal approach and pairing the bottoms with a bandeau top, Vans and a black shoulder hobo bag. So cute.

4. Hoodie + Heels

I’m not saying you have to pull a full-on Carrie Bradshaw to take on this trend, but taking a page out of the chaotic column writer's book may help. Wearing the piece in an eye-catching hue and with complementary colors is a great way to sport it, especially in the spring. You can try a cute pastel like pictured above or maybe a pair with a bold print design.

5. Oversize Button Up + Slingback Heels

Oversize dress shirts go with everything, including wide-leg jorts. Taking a page from millennials and opting for a business casual look is a safe choice that never fails and looks incredibly fashionable. With a simple base outfit, you can really make your ensemble shine with a pop of color, particularly with your accessories—a perfect spring fashion formula.

6. Oversize Knit Cardigan + T-Shirt + Cowboy Boots

Haven’t you heard? Cowboy Core is all the rage this season (thanks, Beyoncé). This look isn’t full cowgirl, but the boots are just enough for you to claim the title. However, they aren’t a requirement for this jorts look. You can opt for your fave pair of booties, coupled with a tee and oversize cardigan, and you’re ready to hit the town.
