You may want to sit down for this one, because Christmas just came early for Virgin River fans.
Netflix Renews ‘Virgin River’ for Season 7 Ahead of Season 6 Premiere
This is not a drill
Today, Netflix confirmed that the popular drama series has been renewed for season seven. The newly announced installment will consist of ten binge-worthy episodes featuring all your fan-favorite cast members, including Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence, Annette O'Toole, Tim Matheson and Benjamin Hollingsworth.
I’m not surprised that Netflix renewed Virgin River for season seven because, well, it’s one of the streamer’s most popular shows. But the fact that it confirmed season seven before the sixth installment has even premiered speaks volumes about the show’s future. (FYI, season six is hitting Netflix on December 19.)
As Deadline noted, the renewal is a huge deal because it makes Virgin River one of Netflix’s longest-running English-language drama series. When season seven premieres, the show will be tied with Grace and Frankie and Orange Is the New Black (both of which ran for seven seasons).
Hypothetically, if Netflix were to renew Virgin River for season eight, the show would officially break the record as the streamer’s longest-running drama series. #NBD
Virgin River is based on the best-selling book series by Robyn Carr, and it tells the story of a nurse practitioner, Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Breckenridge), who is looking for a fresh start after losing her husband.
The first two seasons follow Mel as she adjusts to small-town living, while the third, fourth and fifth installments further explore her relationship with Jack (Henderson). The sixth season picks up right where the finale ends, with Mel and Jack finally tying the knot.
Bring on the drama.
