‘Twilight’ Director Says These Two ‘Amazing’ Stars Would Be Perfect as Bella and Edward in a Reboot

It's been 15 years since Twilight (2008) premiered in theaters and quickly became a global phenomenon, grossing over $400 million at the box office and launching what is still one of the top 20 highest-grossing film franchises of all time.

So, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the first installment, director Catherine Hardwicke visited the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, where she discussed making Twilight, while also mentioning who she would love to see in a reboot of the series.

As you might well know, the Twilight Saga film series stars Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan, while Robert Pattinson portrays Edward Cullen. However, host Horowitz wanted to know who Hardwicke might cast if she were making a reboot today.

“Is there anyone in the new crop today, like who do you cast?” Horowitz asked. “Is Jacob Elordi Edward Cullen today? Is Jenna Ortega…”

Quickly, Hardwicke jumped in and said, “Oh yeah, that would be perfect.” In reference to Elordi, she mentioned the 26-year-old's new film Saltburn, before adding, “Jacob Elordi—I mean, he’s amazing. He probably would be Edward today. Exactly.”

Horowitz then asked, “Is there any young actress that feels like a Kristen Stewart of this next generation to you that jumps out?”

In response, the Twilight director said, “I do think that there's a lot of really cool young actors...I mean, of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega. She's amazing.”

Like Elordi, Ortega’s also had her hands busy, filming the second season of her smash Netflix series Wednesday and also working on upcoming films like Death of a Unicorn and Beetlejuice 2.

Back in April, it was reported that a Twilight Saga TV series was in the works, and we think they should seriously consider these stars. Just sayin'.
