The Recruit is back, better than ever and certainly on its way to being the number one show on Netflix. When we first met Noah Centineo’s character Owen Hendricks in season one, he was a naive 24-year-old lawyer who had just gotten a new job with the CIA. In true “new job fashion,” however, Hendricks was quickly thrown into the fire when a former CIA operative began making threats to expose the organization.

Fast forward to season two, Hendricks is a little older and wiser as he travels all around the world in an attempt to stop the blackmailer from exposing all of the organization's dirty business. While I won’t give too much away for those that want to give it a watch, I will say there is an unexpected plot twist along the way that may or may not have you rooting for the villain, and another major twist that closes out the season.

Ahead of the season two premiere, both Centineo and showrunner and executive producer Alexi Hawley spoke with TheWrap, telling the publication, “The anti-hero is definitely played out at this point, at least until it gets reinvented. I think audiences want to root for something.” Hawley added, “He’s not trying to be cool. I’m very lucky with Nathan Fillion on ‘The Rookie’ as well in having two leads who really are not afraid of falling down or being the butt of a joke.”

“He’s starting to understand the way that world of the CIA and operations works,” Centineo explained in regards to his character's evolution.

Covid delays, filming issues and the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are all factors in why season two is only just now being released over two years after its series debut. Judging by the result and excited response from fans, however, the wait was most certainly worth it.
